Tools #3: Incra Mitre Express / Incra 1000SE Mitre Gauge - VIDEO

06-02-2007 05:13 AM by mot | 12 comments »

I wanted to add to the mitre gauge posts. Wayne posted a photo tour of the Jessem System, and David posted initial impressions of the Kreg System. The incra 1000SE is seen here in the Incra Miter Express sled. Both are available at Woodpeck.com You can see the kerf where the mitre sled straddles the blade in the tablesaw allowing for the cutoff piece to be coplanar with the workpiece. This decreases the chance of the saw flinging the cutoff piece back. The Incra guage is adjutab...

Tools #2: Veritas Mk.II Sharpening System Quick Review - VIDEO

05-31-2007 04:04 PM by mot | 15 comments »

Hi Folks, As promised, a quick tour of the Veritas Mk.II Sharpening System. In the video I seem to use back bevel and micro bevel interchangeably. This is a mistake and is due to doing these videos at 1am when I should be ”sawing logs,” in bed. However, here it is…

My Pegged Joint Experiment

05-27-2007 02:08 AM by David | 10 comments »

I am fascinated with the mortise and tenon joint, as well as, frame and panel construction. The most current issue of Fine Woodworking set me off on a path to add pegged joints to my frame and panel quilt chests. I like the look of the peg and appreciate the extra strength and longevity that a pegged joint will add to my projects. WATCH THIS VIDEO FROM FWWDrawbored Mortise and Tenon - FWW Video - Matthew Teague The Pegged Joint Exposed - FWW #191 pgs 38-45 - Matthew Teague I am still...

Auxillary Workbench #3: Using Dowelmax to join the bases with stretchers - VIDEO

05-22-2007 01:08 AM by mot | 12 comments »

I wanted to put a bolt through the stretchers in order to tighten up an seasonal slack that might occur with this bench. The perfect thing to do, (perfect only because I thought of it,) was to use two dowels for anti-rotation pins and then put a bolt through the stretcher. This is just a short blog entry today. This video is how I used Dowelmax to align the stretchers to the base. In part IV of this series, I’ll discuss the top of the bench, and move on to the skirt and vise i...

"Workshop" tour

05-21-2007 11:58 PM by Bob Babcock | 21 comments »

Oops..posted this in projects by mistake….here it is in blogs. Last minute…no editing…..not that you wouldn’t be able to tell. OK…I figured that I would make you all feel good by comparison. My shop “workshopette” my wife calls it, is about as small as you can go and still call it a shop. I do manage to build some fun stuff though. The morris chair is underway and a stand up paddleboard paddle for my brother is going to start soon.

Shop Videos #1: Caliper's Shop Tour

05-21-2007 12:55 AM by Jeff | 18 comments »

Nothing like getting it done at the last minute… This was a new thing for me since I’ve always just shot still photos. I learned a lot and scratched my head a lot too. Since I did it with a small handheld camera rather than an actual video camera, I learned about editing to make one movie. The video snippets themselves are not heavily edited except for transitions so the speaking audio is raw. See if you can keep count the “umm…” comments. I did add some music as...

My Shop Tour

05-21-2007 12:49 AM by David | 32 comments »

This is a tour of my garage shop in Portland, Oregon. Yes, I do have to park a car (actually 2 vehicles) in my garage. I don’t mind because it is my space and at least I get to pursue my hobby. I know there are a lot of guys like me that have a multi-purpose garage as thier shop, so this is for all the small garage shop guys! Thanks to Martin, Marc & Niel for this awesome video challenge. It has been very cool to put a face and voice to all of the LumberJocks that have posted a vide...

Auxillary Workbench #2: Using the Festool Domino to bore all mortises to assemble the tressel bases...VIDEO

05-20-2007 08:56 AM by mot | 8 comments »

Yeehaw! I anticipated this step all day. I had originally planned to use Dowelmax to join these pieces because I was more comfy with the jig and this has to align perfect. I then though, phooey! I’ll use Domino and give it a good test drive. The first picture shows the Festool Domino fitted with the Trim stop. This fitting allows you to “center or off-set the Domino joiner on narrow work pieces for perfect positioning.” HA! If anyone can screw this up, I can! I d...
