In this part, we will kill our darlings… This might seem like murder, sawing through a Netsuke, but there are a idea behind the mad(s)ness.Bought this beautiful old wood Netsuke, from Japan some years back, it is a rolled together man, that reminds me of me, when I have my neck pains, so it has a special place in my heart, as a mirror of my reality of ...

08-08-2021 10:55 PM by mafe | 14 comments »

Friendship shrineThe beginning. This is a story and project, that has been on it’s way, for a long, long time. Some of the materials arrived in my workshop, for more than ten years ago, the build started in 2016 and had several holds on it’s way, for many reasons. It’s a project that emerged out of friendships, that I made on LJ, some that grew over the years, some that vanished and some of them went into personal friendships, one even to a brother, with a different mother. Men's Valet Golf Tournament Prizes #2: The Construction of the first Box

09-19-2010 03:45 AM by WoodSimplyMade | 6 comments »

So I started working on the first box tonight. I am working with 1/2” walnut that I ordered from WoodCraft. I had decided to take 1” off the front of the prototype and add 1” in width instead. Now the inside compartment can comfortably hold an iPhone or Droid. First I ripped the board to 2” wide then proceeded to cut it to 4 pieces each 6” long. Next I routed out a 1/2” dado for the dividing wall slot. After routing a dado for the box botto...

09-17-2010 02:21 PM by WoodSimplyMade | 1 comment »

I posted a few days ago the prototype design I came up with for a men’s valet station. These were to be prizes to be presented at an upcoming golf tournament in November. I asked you all for input and comments on the design and of course I can always count on you guys just for that. The feedback and suggestions were great and have allowed me to modify the design to make it even better. For those of you who have not seen my submission here is the prototype that I had you all comment o...

Dresser-top Valet/Watch Case/Charging Station #1: Planning the Valet Design

12-19-2008 05:48 AM by asmang | 5 comments »

This is my first post here at lumberjocks so I thought I’d start off with a design I’m considering building. I’d like to have a dresser-top valet that’s large enough to hold two drawers. The bottom drawer is for things like cufflinks, rings, etc. and the top drawer is to hold five large (40+ mm) watches. Above that will be a shelf covered in flocking with an area to hold a cell phone, iPod, etc. behind. What I haven’t worked out yet are 1) are the dimensio...
