Daily Top 15 is here!

11-14-2011 06:01 PM by Martin Sojka | 62 comments »

Let’s see what you think about this update. I’m quite excited about it and am eager to see how it evolves down the road. I personally found home page a bit boring for some time and was thinking about the way to make it more interesting – possibly by adding a bit of competitiveness to it as it never hurts. The final update is more robust and it awards the most active projects posted daily. So what’s it all about? The most recent projects were replaced by Daily Top 15...

Update on Megan and her brain tumor

05-03-2011 07:19 PM by lilredweldingrod | 57 comments »

Last year Bert Flores and I built boxes for my grand daughter. Bert made her a beautiful jewelry box and I made a keepsakes box. She was supposed to be going in for a removal of her brain tumor that is pressing on her hypothalamus and pituitary gland. She has suffered from hydro encephalitis for about seven years now and has had to have the tubes changes every 9 to 12 months to relieve the pressure on the brain. The worst part of all this is that the father and step mother refuse to up date u...

New Home Page Tells More About Us

06-27-2007 01:41 PM by Martin Sojka | 44 comments »

I got an idea last week to make our home page more inviting to new visitors. The idea was to introduce our community – us – through showing what we love. All those “latest” boxes (projects, blogs, forums) were nice but was telling nothing special about us. Now we have 4 main sections on the home page: we love to work the wood – featured LumberJock spotlight. This section shows 5 project of randomly selected LumberJock on each page reload. To have the opportu...

LumberJocks Got New Look

03-09-2008 07:48 PM by Martin Sojka | 31 comments »

Few days ago, I decided to update the LumberJocks look. The header was becoming too busy with all the navigation links and that was the main motivator. And I wanted bolder and visually more appealing page titles as well. After playing in the graphic design program and adjusting the code I ended up with the following new look and updates: Tabbed navigation with the highlighted current section All of the “my home, my…” links moved to just one drop-down menu that ...

The Latest Update From The American Craftsman Workshop

07-12-2010 07:19 AM by Todd A. Clippinger | 29 comments »

Finally! Well guys, I am finally getting my schedule and projects under control. But I am still busy working 7 days a week to catch up. For the last couple of weeks I have been knocking off work between 10 and 10:30pm. Working from 7am to 10pm sounds like a long day but it is short compared to the previous 3 months that I was working 7am until 1 or 1:30am. There were two instances where I worked from 7am one morning until 11:30 the next night with only about a 1hour nap. I find that ...

Wall Hung Tool Cabinet #14: Milling Cherry for the Cabinet Face

06-22-2012 02:56 AM by Smitty_Cabinetshop | 27 comments »

EDIT: Updated to eliminate PB BS. Smitty Pictures tonight, but precious little dialogue. Lunchbox planer was out with a bad switch, but it came back this weekend. So the boards went through multiple passes then were each given the #4 smoother treatment. I did move to the #4 1/2 after awhile, and the mass was very welcome. I ripped a thicker board then did the re-saw of those boards on the old Craftsman bandsaw. When the night was over, the cabinet was covered with the frui...

Drum Sander #8: One Year On

05-29-2011 03:23 PM by BritBoxmaker | 23 comments »

Its been a little over a year since I made this Drum Sander. This update shows minor modifications and it’s present condition including any wear on the MDF table. Here she is without the dust hood. As you can see the promised paint job never happened. This Sander has been in more or less continuous use, on pretty much every project of mine, for the past year. There hasn’t been time to paint it (and let it dry). As for wear on the MDF table, there is minimal surface sc...

random #40: outta time :(:

08-25-2010 11:57 AM by Gary Fixler | 21 comments »

That symbol is a frowney/smiley, because the news about my job lately is bittersweet. After the 7-month unemployed spell that started last September and lasted exactly as long as my savings held up, an old coworker got in touch with me about coming to work with him at an online games division of Disney. It was a really great opportunity to do exactly what I do, which is pretty niche, and it marked the first time the job skills requirements matched 100% with my resume. They’re usually mo...
