Years ago, I bought a bench grinder at a discount import tool and surplus store that predated Harbor Freight stores. I was working on a very tight budget but I wanted a dedicated grinder for sharpening chisels and drill bits. This grinder is rather heavy with a cast iron base and the store owner let me take it out of the box to confirm that it ran smooth. Well I am still working on improving my lathe skills. In an effort to get better and use sharper tools I have been going over the LumberJocks and the rest of the web searching plans for a grinding jig. I finally settled on using some plans from Around the Woods a few modifications for my smaller grinder. I do still need to buy a new wheel for my grinder so I am keeping the current one away from my good tools that I bought and practicing mainly with the older ones that came with the lathe. I s...

I mentioned in one of my project post where I pictured a small hand plane that I made in my shop that I also make the irons and sharpening stones. I of course make the wood too, since I have a sawmill. Others showed interest in more details, so here they are. I did not know where to start. I am starting with a honing stone I “made”.
