06-29-2016 09:08 PM by CharlieK | 3 comments »

View on YouTube One of the absolute high points of my 2016 winter road trip was meeting Marc Spagnuolo, aka The Wood Whisperer at his shop outside Phoenix, AZ. One of the cool things about this interview is that he gave some real insights into the Business Side of Woodworking and Woodworking on the Internet. I posted on Facebook when I was in Arizona that I would like to interview another woodworker while I was there. I had heard that Marc lived in the Phoenix area, but I never expec...

Behind the scenes of my shop and YouTube channel #6: THE WOOD WHISPERER, Chad Shimmel, Ty Moser, and Sun City West

02-22-2016 02:19 AM by CharlieK | 8 comments »

After my wonderful stay in Los Angeles I drove to Phoenix. It took 5 hours just to get out of LA but that was not enough to tarnish the memory. I REALLY liked Phoenix! Actually, I stayed with friends in Sun City West and I had a great time. It was in the 80’s the whole time I was there and I even got to play a round of golf. The folks at Sun City have a fabulous wood shop, unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of it. :( Anyway, I DID get to meet The Wood Whisperer! We ...

Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know about a little contest that Kyle Toth and I have set up on The Wood Whisperer website. It’s a bangle bracelet making contest that will happen in October, and there are some sweet prizes available for the top 3 entries in each of two categories: “Turned on a lathe”, and “made without a lathe.” We wanted to make sure that turning wasn’t a requirement for entry, and you can make a bracelet any number of ways. ...

Since adding Matthew’s first video to youtube, Matthew has been getting hit after hit on his youtube page. There are some key people that I can attribute to the success thus far. Let me start in order Debbie found Matthew’s video on G+ and asked if she could add it to LJ’s, I was m...

New Power Tools , Why is it harder than buying a valentine gift

04-17-2011 05:01 PM by Yupa4242 | 9 comments »

Hey Lj’s I have to say diving head first into the world of wookworking has been a treat and a major headache for me. When It comes down to power tools and the all mighty web and woodworking publications and public opinion a new hobbyist can drown before even building his first project. Power tools are the cream of the crop these days so much to choose from makes the final choice that much harder to commit too. Heck even hand tools can be a challenge and there multitude of offerings. ...

02-20-2010 09:12 AM by Jason Tetterton | 1 comment »

I hear it’s a right of passage around here to do a wood-whisperer type cutting board :) Well, since Marc inspired my new wood working hobby, I thought I would try one of his projects out. I decided to use the same famous pattern with Hard Maple and Purple Heart, I ordered the “cutting board” package from Bell Forest I received 3 pieces of wood, 2 hard maple and 1 Purple Heart. The lumber was already joint...
