Exercises in Artisanship #28: The spoon makers tote! Part Two

09-27-2012 09:51 PM by jjw5858 | 8 comments »

Well I could say that my blog of this tote project would be fairly bogus if I was not up for sharing my trials and tribulations as well as the nice stuff…lol. My dovetailing experience on this job went very rhythmic. With my accuracy and approach I could see the improvements. My work needed some additional paring and cleanup as well as a few gaps always for inspiring more practice, but the entire program was highly enjoyable and really encouraging. Then…....lol (you just know ...

Moving forward with tools in tote!

07-15-2013 10:22 PM by jjw5858 | 6 comments »

Hello friends! Once again I want to thank you all so much for your comments on my last blog. It was really great to hear from you all again. It was just what I needed to resurrect my soul full of ideas and woodworking spirit. My last project some years ago…lol, well it felt like years ago..lol, was going to be my Country Carving Throne. Well folks because I left that project on the shelf for so long I honestly decided to leave it on hold for for now. A few misfortunes of my mallet bl...

Wooden Shackles #2: Fun with Shapes and Styles

09-26-2018 11:17 PM by AceofHearts | 0 comments »

A few days work and some playing i got some interesting designs for my shackles so far, the next batch I will push the designs a bit further and try to incorporate more detail work. These are just from 2×4 and 2×6 pine lumber from Home Depot so they’re really soft and somewhat hard to work with for this. I’m still new to woodworking so I’m making lots of mistakes, this keeps me confident that I will improve and so will my work over time. The shackles I have ...

Madrone Burl Pen

02-20-2008 12:51 AM by itsme_timd | 9 comments »

I don’t want to post 100 entries on my projects page for pens but wanted to share this one, I think it came out great. I’ve always tried to have some type of artistic outlet and never had any skills. Drawing, painting, music – no luck at all. I tried trombone in 6th Grade and the band director actually asked me to move the slide but not actually play… true story. :-) I’ve received a lot of compliments on the pens and I’m getting better – this on...

My "Bucket List" #12: Segment Four Part Two- Almost done assembling

06-12-2011 05:07 AM by therookie | 1 comment »

Well today was an extremley busy day my dad and I went and did a tree clean up job for a guy in my scout troop. We hauled out 2 mounded 8’ x 16’ trailer loads of box elder and I got some pretty nice wood but thats a later blog. When we were all done with the tree and had everything cleaned up I got to get back to work on my WorkBench. So I put the end aprons on, made the clamp bars and got the holes drilled in them notched them out and put the slots in the bench top pieces and ...

Knick-Knack Window Shelf #1: Knick-Knack Window Shelf Part 1

01-12-2008 04:15 AM by Critterman | 5 comments »

Hi all, been quiet on my own stuff lately mostly because I’ve been busy trying to figure out how I’m going to do this particular project. The project (as seen below) is a Knick-Knack shelf that resembles a window with a mirrored back. The only part keeping me puzzled it how I will do the curved front. Here is a pic of the sample I got off of Google: The original was painted/milk paint maybe, but I’m going for African Mahogany. Not sure how everything is going to w...

Archtop 2012 #3: F Holes

03-17-2012 06:29 PM by Josh Sollows | 0 comments »

Next step for this guitar took a little bit more of my artistic side. I had to make my own F holes for the top of the guitar. For those of you who don’t know, the F holes are the fancy shaped openings in the top of the guitar that allows the sound generated by the vibrating top, to project from the body. From a few pictures of different types of F holes I did a free hand drawing of my own version on a piece of 1/2” ply. After a little bit of editing, I was happy with it, and cut i...
