The Great Box Sale Adventure #2: Day 2

05-26-2014 04:07 PM by maplerock | 12 comments »

Rested and refreshed the wife and I headed back to the Art and Antique sale with renewed vigor. One day of slow (actually nonexistent) sales wouldn’t deter us from putting a fine box in the hands of every American. When we pulled our trusty Ford F-150 into the venue there were plenty of parking spaces. Hmmm…. we arrived at the same time as yesterday and had to squeeze into a spot then. Is this an omen that the crowds on Saturday were much larger than we’d find today? ...

Squaring my miter saw

12-11-2011 06:19 AM by thiswoodshop | 2 comments »

I had a Ryobi 14 Amp 10 in. Compound Mitre Saw. It was working fine but could only cut a max of 5 inches wide boards. I was in the market for a new on but all of the sliding miter saw was so costly. I even considered a Harbor Freight one, but even at that it was a $100 and more for one. I decided to check out craigslist.com and found a Kobalt one there for s feel. Well, after I got home I found out why it was so cheap – it was not square. I tried a couple of time to square it up but it...

Knotty Pine #4: Anyone want any?

03-18-2008 02:20 AM by Kevin | 2 comments »

I decided today that I would offer some of the Knotty Pine and Ash up for sale to anyone on Lumber Jocks. I am not doing this to make money, I am doing this because I hate to see it go up in smoke. If I have no takers by this weekend, I’ll get what I can and the remainder will probably be burnt down. Cost? – Make an offer. Location – SE Kansas or Wichita, Kansas

Huge Estate Sale - 300+ Planes!

01-22-2013 03:31 AM by grfrazee | 2 comments »

This past weekend there was an estate sale in Ottawa, IL. The owner of the estate apparently was a huge tool collector, because there were more planes on sale there than I’ve ever seen in my life. For example, the owner had five No. 113s, at least five #12s, more block and bench planes than I could keep track of, and the ever elusive and ever-so-tiny Stanley #1. Since I’ve been looking for a few things, I figured I might as well make the 1:15 drive from Downers Grove and ...

Going Pro Part 1: Are you so Impassioned you can't stand it? Did you Consider........

10-05-2007 03:34 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 14 comments »

Over in the Forum, there is a question about Going Pro with woodworking, and what should be considered. The Forum Writer stated to “be honest.” I decided to post my comments there, and then also as a Blog Post. It will be easier for me to find my own comments later, and to document the thoughts as a Blog. Just a few misc., and random thoughts, as I don’t have much time this morning 1) Full time is so different than part-time, or hobby woodworking, that there isn’t any c...

cool T's #7: Save $5.00!

09-08-2007 07:15 PM by scottb | 4 comments »

You can now wear white after Labor Day! Just went in to check out my (dusty) online store, and I noticed that I didn’t select White T’s as an option (as I finally went to get one for myself). So I edited the store and in addition to several color options, Plain white is also one, and surprisingly, $5 cheaper than the more colorful offerings, and not to mention white goes with everything… I’ve also reduced my (small) commission on the sale of these and my...

Craft show

07-29-2008 06:10 PM by TheKingsTreasures | 1 comment »

Aginst my better judgment, someone convinced me to set up at a local festival-craft show. The last couple of weeks we have been working hard getting ready for the show at Riverfest at Leavenworth. I was thinking that after the show we would be able to slow down and mellow out a little but, I think not. I got so many orders for signs that the next few weeks will be a bit hectic again. Well not “so many” orders, I think it was 10 or 11 but some of them want more then one sign. I ...

I have been anxious to get the cameras out and do some more video so I did an update from the American Craftsman Workshop. Thanks to the following guys for helping me get my own site started. It is a work in progress at the moment, but they really helped me figure a lot of things out sooner than later. Marc Spagnuolo – thewoodwhisperer.com Matt Vanderlist – mattsbasementworkshop.com Brian Havens – brianhavens.us Troy Bouffard – birchhillwoodcrafts.com ...
