That OddLots Ad #5: Side panels are done

Panel #2 came out of the clamps today. Jointed one edge straight…then got the idea to clamp panel #1 to Panel #2 And joint the edges til they matched…that was the plan….however.. With the other sides even..had this much to remove…more than “Just a little off the top”...wasn’t ready to push the No.7c THAT much…..got out an older jack plane, and roughed things down a bit.. Just to get things close.. For the other two planes to finish ...

Tool chest or blanket chest? #1: Tool chest, the corners get shaped

Time to cut some items into parts for the corners. Need four skinny, and four wider pieces. The “skinny” ones will gain the thickness of the parts they mate into, at the corner. Measured how much room i needed before making the foot cut out. Hmm, about 15” or so. The i found something round to layout a curve for the foot. Ah, an old dust port for a router. Then drew a line down from the circle, about 1” from the outside edge. Then continued the ...

Not so cheap Walnut Table, part two

Ok, salvaged some parts from an old junk table that was being tossed into the trash. Got four legs, and a couple aprons to use as a pattern. That pile of rusty hardware will be tossed out. As for patterns Might keep them around for other table projects. Laid out the aprons on some walnut Traced them out, and got ready to saw them out All clamped up and ready to saw? not quite, needed a square end to start things better. Handsaw? Not so cheap table

Lucked into a couple planks the other day Figured I could make a small table out of two planks. They were 4/4 by 6” by 90” long. Sawed up one plank into 30” long blanks. Then some work with the hand planes Mainly to get some glue joint worthy edges. I also ran the smoothers over the faces of the three boards, just to see what was under all that rough-sawn stuff. Got the three into the clamps Next morning, took the slab out of most of the clamps. ...
