How to dimension lumber with handtools #4: Parallel face and edge

09-15-2018 12:20 AM by LastingBuild | 0 comments »

After establishing the reference face and edge, I use my marking gauge to mark the board thickness using the reference face as the guide. Once I have marked all four sides, I use my jack plane, jointer plane and smoothing plane to bring down the rough surface of the board to my marking lines. Then, I repeat the step for the board width using the reference edge as the guide. Once finished the board was perfectly square. (as perfect as necessary at least). If you would like to watch my video...

Timber Frame Barn Remodel #1: Barn Workshop The Beginnings

09-05-2017 04:27 PM by PoohBaah | 8 comments »

Three years ago my wife and I were gifted an acre of land to build a home upon. Included in this acre was this barn. It is a good sized barn at 40’ x 50’ with a hay loft upstairs that is massive and it already has a concrete floor on most of it. Now it has been a hot topic with in the family of what we should do with this barn. My wife’s grandmother hates it for one reason or another and feels it needs torn down. I figured that since the parts for this project are pretty small, I could manage to get enough straight grain out of these two boards and save some of the better lumber for other projects. Roug...

Calling All Texas Lumberjocks...

01-09-2009 01:06 AM by woodchips | 5 comments »

Hey Guys, I told a friend I’d try and sell some of his black walnut so here’s the offer. I’m trying to put together a package deal since he wants to sell all 7000 bf of it in one fell swoop, of course it doesn’t have to be all one buyer. Anyway the wood is all air dried, all 10/4 and 5/4 stuff, some of it is up to 12” in width and none of it is less than 6’ long with most of it 8’ up to 12’ in length. I know lots of ya’ll might not b...
