As I write this, I’m staring at three sets of drill/driver combination kits and my eyes hurt from scouring the web searching for reviews, pros and cons for each set. I’m torn between fleeting brand loyalty, the thought of what “might be” for me in the hobby, and the stark realization of who I am, what I do and how infrequently I do it. A rookie on the Path! #1: First Cradle

I am building my first real piece of furniture out of ALL wood. I have made tables, beds and bakers racks, among other things, out of steel and wood with some glass. I have never used nice hardwood and made what I consider fine furniture. I have been working on this cradle for a long time. Not everyday and only a couple hours at a time. I have run into some problems a long the way and have chalked them up to just a learning curve issue. Most could have been avoided with better plannin...

Jake's chair #4: Router rookie

I really had imagined being able to grab some tools, get some wood, and slap this chair together in no time! That’s not the case though :) As I mentioned in the last entry, I am taking my time to rethink my process on this first chair to make it as easy as possible to make more chairs. I thought I had the parts pretty close after using the belt sander at work to finish my curved cuts, untill I put the duplicate parts together and I could see how far off they really were from each ot...
