From Rust to Lust, can I bring it back? #1: The Day I got it

02-02-2012 04:50 PM by GlennsGrandson | 4 comments »

I have already posted in forums on this topic but I had a suggestion that this may be a good idea to update my restoration status as I go. So I found this Rockwell/Delta 37-220 6” Jointer on CL the other day, asking $150, I drove 40 miles to look at it. Talked him down to $100 rather easily being it was missing the table out lock knob, the back door for the enclosed baseis also missing, as well as the beds being coated in rust, and the end of the cord has cardboard and electrical tap...

Starting from zero

12-02-2011 07:51 AM by Alexdi | 4 comments »

About three months ago, I wanted to build a small furniture piece for my rec room. This quickly ballooned (as these things do) into putting together a full workshop. The plan to pick up an old $100 portable saw morphed into a recent contractor saw, and then on a whim, into a cabinet saw. Here’s what I discovered: The saw: There are no pictures of the saw fully assembled because it was dark when I bought it and in pieces when I got it home. A few shots of some parts: I’...

Unisaw 34-450 for $300

05-27-2011 01:39 AM by cranesgonewild | 20 comments »

Yup, you read that correctly.I’ve been on a search for a while now trying to find a half decent table or cabinet saw. I’ve jumped back and forth from used on Kijiji to a new Ridgid 4512, back to used, then I was going to buy a new Grizzly G0690, right up until Monday. That’s when I got the call. My brother in law sent me a link Monday morning to a Rockwell/Delta Unisaw 34-450 on Kijiji that was posted late the night before. It was a really nice looking saw with no damage ...

Rockwell Saw - Jointer Combination #1: 1970's Rockwell Table Saw Jointer Combination

My dad bought this saw for $100 after we saw the ad on Craigslist.Since then i have had to adjust the fence, lube it, and put a new blade in it and it sounds like brand new.I cleaned the table off by using a wire brush for my drill and sanded the top with wet/dry sandpaper soaked in mineral spirits. But there is still some spots i missed. I was working on it until 11 PM outside underneath a dust to dawn light. So i suppose that’s an excuse. My next project for it is to build an outfeed ...

Repair of Rockwell Radial Arm Saw --model 12-ras

11-07-2008 04:28 AM by RedRooster | 3 comments »

Can someone help with information or experiences on repairing my old Rockwell 12 RAS? (Ser# KU2439). I purchased the saw from the state government surplus warehouse. I have not started to repair it yet. I thought someone might have already repaired one and have some advice on where to start, where to find manuals, and what to problems to look for. The saw is mechanically sound, motor is can be turned easily by hand and the bearings feel fine, but the motor does not seem to get any powe...

Shop Tools #1: Would you have passed it up?

05-20-2007 01:04 AM by WayneC | 16 comments »

My son wanted to get up this morning and go to some garage sales. I’ve been gone all week working and thought it would be a good idea to spend some time with him and his sister today. We happened across this drill press at a garage sale and I tried, but failed to pass it up. I have a fairly new Rigid Drill press with a Rockler drill press table and it works great for me. I thought long and hard about buying or not buying it. My biggest issue is space. This one has some addition...
