While I was in Portland I got to see the master class graduation at the Northwest School of Woodworking and all the beautiful work they had created. I had time to see Portland a bit and got to go to the famous Powell’s bookstore. I went to an apple festival in Estacada where I got to make my own apple cider. This isn’t really woodworking, but there’s some wood involved in the presentation. The other day, a friend of ours requested this recipe of Barb’s Calico Beans. She always made these when we went on a picnic, or potluck dinner. We were really impressed by the request, because the person who asked about the recipe hadn’t been in touch with it for about 20 years, but he still remembered how good it tasted. The third box in my series (the middle one), while still a beginner project presented me with a few new challenges. As I mentioned in the previous post in the series, I resawed some leftover decking for this project. The sides are quartersawn 3/8ths mahogany, glued together with simple butt joints.
