Porter Cable Dovetail Jig #4216 #2: FedEx delivers and I started to test the unit.

08-06-2012 02:37 AM by Sawdustonmyshoulder | 5 comments »

The PC 4216 came in last week. I was able to open it up yesterday and get started. Looks like everything is here. Seems to be very well made…. like all of my PC equipment. In about 20 minutes, I had it ready to make my first joint. I decided to attempt a half blind dovetail joint. This unit as an adjustable side stop and this allows you to get that classic half pin on each end of the joint on any size drawer side. Well, the first attempt was way too tight… in ...

Porter Cable Dovetail Jig #4216 #3: My first project using the jig

02-14-2013 07:33 PM by Sawdustonmyshoulder | 6 comments »

I was honored to be asked to create a box for my mother-in-law’s cremated remains as my first project using this jig. She passed away right before New Years and while we waited for the return of the remains, I was able to create the box using the jig. Once again, the set up was easy. The joints were just tight enough to allow glue to swell the wood for an incredibly strong bond. This jig was a very helpful because I was under a tight schedule. The wood is cherry and the inlaid...

Need your experienced input...

07-11-2008 03:17 AM by woodinit | 14 comments »

Fellow LJ’s:I’ve been shopping the net for a biscuit joiner…and need your input. Here’s what I’ve learned so far: - Porter-Cable has the best handle and power switch arrangement, not to mention top quality – and the price to go with it. It’s probably the top of the list (except Festool’s REALLY high-end thang!) - DeWalt is almost the same tool except the t-handle isn’t on the fence, it’s on the motor. But the fence, motor, switch and price are about the same as PC. - ...

Hi, my name is John and I am a Tool Junkie #1: Grizzly Tent Sale - Muncy PA - Sept 13, 2008

Where can you buy 1000 (full size) sheets of (nice, waterproof) sandpaper for $1.00? Those were the first things to go; I managed to grab 2 boxes in the frenzy, one box of 150 grit, one of 280… Need a sheet? let me know! At 8:00 Saturday morning, Grizzly Industrial’s annual tent sale in Muncy PA opened their doors. I thought I would check this thing out, and actually got there 15 minutes early thinking I would take a look around before the crowds showed up at 10:00 or so…...

Safety (or the lack thereof) #4: OOPS, there she goesssss

08-20-2013 12:44 AM by PASs | 5 comments »

Was building a pergola in the back 40 for a Koi Pond.Mostly salvaged deck lumber. Was shooting 3” framing nails into the top when the gun slipped just a little.I could tell by the lack of recoil that something went wrong. As soon as I moved the gun and saw the ding in the side of the wood I knew what happened…the gun moved enough to shoot the nail past the wood, at about an 80 degree up angle.I counted to about 4, and heard the nail hit in the street on the other side of the block.S...

New Tool Frenzy

Kind of interesting how outside forces can affect your decisions on a more personal level. Obvious to everyone, we are in a bit of a tough economic time right now. I work in information technology and that is a field easily outsourced. Right now, I make ends meet and live a rather simple life. I work from home, make an ok wage, pay my child support, and make gradual improvements in the home. If something were to happen to my job, I have a few skills in other areas and could make ends meet, bu...

Porter Cable Dovetail Jig #4216 #1: Made the buy!!!!

07-08-2012 06:42 PM by Sawdustonmyshoulder | 3 comments »

OK….. I pulled the trigger on the Porter Cable #4216 dovetail jig. I need it for the kitchen in the new house and I am up against a huge deadline. The few extra dollars I paid for this unit is for the templates included. Mini dovetails and box joints and a through dovetail and box joint jig. Now, LJs, I have a Leigh D4R so I guess the question is, “Why in the world did you ‘downgrade’? Well, I have about 130 or so drawers to build. I am hoping this jig will speed up...
