If anyone has any info on this Plane, please help

03-30-2019 04:28 PM by Bigmikeyg | 8 comments »

Hi guys and gals, I just recently acquired this beautiful wooden plane but there are no markings anywhere on the wood, brass, or blade. I am planning on sharpening it up and using it but first I would like a little info on it and possibly its value. That won’t change the fact that I will be using it, but I may be a little, shall we say, less aggressive, with it if it’s valuable… I love the dovetailed brass on the bottom. Please see pictures.

Ridiculous Tool Gloat

Last month I was chatting with a guy who ran a used tool shop near me and the conversation drifted to talking about planes. He lamented the fact that he had trouble selling the planes he purchased and I gave him a quick lesson on how to figure the value of an average plane and separate the good ones from the junk. In exchange for my lesson he told me about a guy who was selling his collection of tools up the street. This is what I came home with for about 280. Stanley No 2, No 5 SW, No 23,...

Handplane Restoration #21: Sliding down the slippery slope - Part 2

08-19-2007 03:07 AM by WayneC | 24 comments »

I recieved the second Plough plane from the UK in the mail today. This one is the little sister of the Record 044 I showed in my last blog entry. This one is a small plough plane made by record and imitated by a couple of other manufactures including Marples. This plane is useful for quickly making groves in boards for drawers and similar applications. Let me introduce the Record 043 to you. I’m show it next to my Lie-Nielson low angle block plane to give you a sense of scale. I...
