So you want to go pro #1: For now I'm gathering my thoughts

01-05-2008 06:07 AM by odie | 6 comments »

OK boys and girls or OK girls and boys This is my first attempt at a “blog”. I don’t even understand what it is. To start with, it is my first priority to be FUNNY. At my age, if you ask a woman or a man what is the most important thing in a marriage they will say a sense of humor. Those of you 40+ out there know what I mean. So you want to start a business. This hopefully will be a series of do’s and don’ts of starting your own woodworking (((or what ever ((f...

On deck...

Winter is here, which means the motorbikes have been winterized and garaged, and there is once again time for some woodworking. However, in order to do that, I have to move the motorbikes out of the garage every time I go to work. Small price to pay for having all the toys, though. A few months back, my friend Jared picked up a LOT of rough sawn 4/4 walnut for $1.50 / bf. I love walnut. I purchased a small amount from him, as I didn’t know what I was going to use it for; how much I w...

Cross Cut Sled #1: New, and far more accurate crosscut sled

12-09-2007 02:18 AM by Jon3 | 5 comments »

NOTE All of my photos have been migrated to a new provider, and the links in my posts are likely out of date. You can find the photos here. My old crosscut sled sucked. I made it before I acquired a lot of knowledge, but I’ve been dragging along with it for a while. I did some test cuts the other day, and realized just how out of shape it was, so I decided it was time for a new one. So here comes the Cross Cut Sled Journey! I decided I wanted a fence with a T groove on it, s...

Tool Cabinet #1: Requesting input on my plans...

12-07-2007 03:04 AM by Sgt_Lobo | 16 comments »

One of the good things about being in the Air Force is that, if you aren’t deployed, most of us can expect to get a good amount of time off around the holidays. I’m expecting a little over a week off between Christmas and New Years, so I though I’d better start another project to keep me busy and out of trouble. While working on my Xmas projects I needed a nail punch. I spent 3 hours looking around my garage before I finally found it conveniently placed underneath one o...

End of April Update, with a Diversified Methodology for running an art-based business

04-30-2007 05:30 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 15 comments »

Wow, 19 days since I last blogged. What have I been doing? Working has been on the forefront of my mind this past month, with mounting medical bills from the “March from Hell” and prior commitments and deadlines, keeping me busy, but not typing much. I am starting to get a lot of personal emails, and they have been the focus of my computer time lately. I keep thinking that I’m nearing the end of my current commission work for St. Anthony’s church, and then I find another reason to keep ...
