4th (Final) Update on the St. Anthony Hymn Number Board

08-04-2007 01:38 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 10 comments »

This week, I’ve been finishing up the Hymn Number Board for the St. Anthony Catholic church in Strong City, KS. Final assembly, glue, number plate holders, stain, finish, and gold-powder painting, and it is all finished now, ready for delivery to the church on Saturday. This is my Original Design, and it looks nothing like anything I have seen before, although it has design elements of things I have built in the past. I built it to match the other furnishings of the St. Anthony chu...

3rd Update on the Hymn Number Stand

07-30-2007 08:15 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 9 comments »

I had a nice weekend. Saturday I worked with a local cabinet maker helping him catch up on his schedule. We are nearly finished with the 3rd kitchen cabinet job, and then he will be caught up. I think I have worked about 8-9 days this summer with him on Saturdays. Sunday was relaxing, went to church and then home with the family, and a nap. A nap makes a lot of things better for some reason (not to take anything away from church). Today, Monday, I have the Hymn Number Board just abo...

Arts and Crafts Style Pool Table - Video Series #5: Corbels for the leg system

07-26-2007 01:47 PM by John Nixon | 5 comments »

A couple of weeks ago I Blogged for help here at LumberJocks (Link Here) with what size / shape /scale to make the corbels for the Pool Table. It was a great discussion and also a nice collaborative process with all who participated. There’s a great group of woodworkers from all skill levels here, and it was nice to hear to various viewpoints. The corbels are finished, and I think they came out great. The next installment in the video series covers the design and construction of t...

Dedicated Hummock’s That Inspire ....from where comes this now my way of having a working mode, when before this place i call home, there starts the un-ravel in front of my eye, and so i am lost within the beauty of a moment’s twinkle of ‘wood art’.... —-why even now the tears cascade down my eyes, as i am in-riched by this wonderous panorama that opens up, having no-place to go in this game of hide and seek, i eat bount-i-fully of the feast that has been s...

2nd Update on the Church Hymn Number Board Commission Project

07-24-2007 02:59 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 11 comments »

Today, Monday, I took photos of what I have accomplished on my Hymn Number Board that I am building for the St. Anthony Church in Strong City, KS. On one hand, it seems like I made a lot of progress since my last blog late last week, but when I look back over the photos tonight, I can see that the number of hours it takes me to do this tedious work is mounting. I started the project with the previous blog: http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/decoustudio/blog/1508 Also, since I had enough in...

Work Progress on my current Commission for the St. Anthony Church in Strong City, KS

07-20-2007 08:54 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 13 comments »

I have received some correspondence lately asking about what I am doing right now in the shop. So, I thought I would post a little progress on my current commission piece. The people at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Strong City, KS asked me to build a Hymn Number Stand to match the other pieces in the church I did earlier this year. Here is a list of the other projects that go with this commission that I have already completed, some have been posted as projects, while others haven...

Another design design for the pool table

07-19-2007 03:29 AM by John Nixon | 7 comments »

I’m back for some more design advice. The discussion / feedback on the corbels was great, and I thank all who participated. Next topic for design consideration is the addition of a stretcher between the legs on the pool table. Some things that are up in the air: Whether to add a stretcher or not. The legs are stout enough that I don’t need it for stability, so it’s purely asthetic. If a stretch is added, should I do a through tenon look where the stretcher comes ...
