I am in my early twenties just graduating college. In my spare time I have been fantasizing about woodworking through YouTube. I guess I started way back in boy scouts or cub scouts whittling little sticks with a knife. It shifted to various school and DIY projects through the years at home, using what I could find.
In middle school, we had a tech/wood shop where I made a CO2 powered car using a few hand tools. There were the kits every now and then for Christmas or birthday that had wood ...

Lots of great info on this blog! Hoping to get a little guidance here. I am new to woodworking after finding a stash of rough walnut in my Grandfather’s garage after he passed. At this point, all I want to do is build some end grain cutting boards as many of you have done. I have a planer, dust collector and jointer from cragslist that do a great job. This was the first time I had ever used a handsaw and attempted to do more than a rough cut to fit oversized studs in the back of my truck. It ...

Hell has officially thawed out (I think) so I’m back in the “shop”—a term I still, unfortunately, have to use in the loosest possible manner. So because I’m still working outdoors, and Wisconsin in winter is not conducive to outdoor work, I’ve spent most of my off-season studying, studying and reading.
I managed to get a little play-time in just before the holidays; I braved the cold and set up a few tools to craft some toy boxes for the nephews. There ...

The First Day of School
I don’t think I slept the night before the first day of Woodworking School. I had been waiting five years to do this, now it was actually going to happen. Maybe I was worried about going to school again after all these years, or I might just have been excited about the next phase of life. How many of us dream about the day we can do the things we want? My day to do that very thing has finally happened.
To go back a few years five t...
