My CNC Adventure #1: The X Carve was a good start

06-26-2018 07:53 PM by JWags | 3 comments »

It’s been a long time since I posted. Since my last post, I’ve moved and gone from a half a 2 car garage shop to a 38×32 foot detached and heated shop. The home we moved into was owned by a custom kitchen cabinet maker – who worked this shop full time. I feel very fortunate having this space. I’ve documented setting up shop there on my YouTube channel: The actual shop move in video is:

New office/shop space #1: It starts

08-06-2017 05:18 PM by Brian Gulotta | 2 comments »

So I am lucky enough to work from home every day. I have wanted a dual purpose dedicated office / shop space for a while. This will allow me to focus on both crafts and get me out of my garage. Last year I built an ~ 10’ x 16’ building on the backside of our property. Right now I have one wall framed up to accept 2 windows I have had lying around. On the other long wall I plan to put a long 5’ transom window. This should give me a ton of natural light all day long. On the ba...

New shop... Here we go again!

12-04-2016 01:58 AM by BMichs75 | 1 comment »

Some of you fellow lumberjocks may remember my last entries as I was just completing my garage/shop build when I accepted a job back home and left my very nearly complete shop that I spent so much time working on. Well I’m back! We moved back close to home in a rental property for the short term while we contemplated the building of our new house and shop. We looked into buying a house but due to the gaining economy, houses very selling for crazy prices (both very good and very bad for ...

Making of a Shop #1: Finally Starting

07-19-2016 11:23 AM by nbgarageshop | 3 comments »

I bought my house in 2012 and remodeled the whole interior and exterior. I setup a rough shop in my garage so I could do the things I needed in order to do my remodel. Now that I’m done with the work that I/my wife wanted done inside and out, I can finally start setting up my garage for woodworking. Its been awhile since I’ve built anything nice from scratch, mostly just some refinishing or making a few things for the home remodel. My garage is 23×20 but its not all usable...

Dread Knot Woodshop #1: I started a YouTube Channel!

10-13-2015 12:08 PM by Darryl Jones | 3 comments »

After years of watching other woodworkers on YouTube, I thought it was time for me to join in. I have started a woodworking channel called Dread Knot Woodshop (you can find it here). The first video is a tour of my new shop and the second video is my first project in which I build a clamp rack. Please watch, like, and subscribe if you feel so inclined. I will be posting all future videos to this blog series for those of you that would like to follow along. You can find the first video he...

Woodshop/Garage Build #7: Walls and Windows and a roof... Oh my!

09-16-2015 01:17 AM by BMichs75 | 2 comments »

The last weekend in August I finally got around to erecting the woodshop/garage structure. It took 7 guys and a Gradall 13 hours to erect the building and finish the roof substructure. We lifted the small walls off the 50 footers and set the long walls in place first, followed by the smaller walls. I will say my cheeks were clenched pretty tight when the first 50 foot wall was lifted and spun 180degrees before being set. It’s really amazing to see all the work and how fast things come t...

New Shop

02-15-2015 09:34 AM by Edwardnorton | 6 comments »

Now that our kids are grown I retired. Sold all of our 35 rental homes, sold and moved out of original home to move into a much smaller one. Our original home was 7,000 sq. ft. and the new one is a mere 2,500 with a 2 car garage but I do have a 10 acre lawn to build on. Only thing I’ve missed from our old home is the 55×70 shop I had so I’ve decided to have another built. My new one will be 70×70. The tools I have are an old Hitachi table saw, Hitachi 12 inch bandsaw, Dewalt mitersaw a...

The New Shop #1: A New Shop and a New Mantra

10-28-2014 08:26 PM by chrisstef | 25 comments »

“If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it again?” The above is a quote from Coach John Wooden of UCLA. As my family and I have moved into a new house I’ll be moving into a new shop. Considering that I have a completely blank slate to work with that quote will hopefully be my new mantra as I venture into creating a new workspace for my woodworking and general hacketry. Here’s how things looked when we moved into the new house...

New Shop building! #2: It's Here! It's HERE! (heads up. LOTS of pic's to load)

05-11-2014 12:42 PM by JoeinGa | 24 comments »

Well, the original estimate on delivery was “End of next week or maybe the week after”. Then on Thursday (5 days) my wife called me at work and said ”The guy just called and said your new shop is on it’s way here. He’s hooking up to it now and they should be here in a few hours.” YAHOO! I’m as excited as a kid in a candy store! So I get home from work and several hours later the mover calls and tells me he’s in the next town (12 miles away)....
