Musing of an Old Geezer #4: Play it Forward!

09-01-2017 10:10 PM by GnarlyErik | 3 comments »

When I was a kid around seven or eight, entertainment choices were a lot slimmer then than now. Like many boys back then, I would gather a few scraps of wood, ‘borrow’ my dad’s hammer, get my hands on a few nails and ‘make’ something. No design, just start nailing things together with a decidedly nebulous idea of what I was actually making. But, everyone has to start somewhere right?. Today it seems that many kids that age are obsessed with iPad and computer g...

Where to find motivation!

06-02-2016 01:24 AM by Jbreth | 3 comments »

So, after doing woodworking for 15+ years as a career, I have come to a midlife crisis as it may seem. I absolutely cannot find motivation to get in the garage and do what I love most. It saddens me deeply as it seems that my creativity has left every vein in my body and I cannot find the motivation to do much of anything these days. I don’t know if it has anything to do with being laid off a couple times in my work career, or what but motivation is no where to be found. I try and t...

Woodworking For Therapy #16: Modify Projects To Fit Your Limitations

04-23-2014 03:06 PM by Steve Kreins | 9 comments »

Yesterday I had a serious procedure done at the hospital, They went through an artery in my leg, up into my liver and blasted a bunch of tumors with undiluted chemo drugs. They also found many more smaller tumors so I get to have it done again in a few weeks. This is seriously going to cause me to rethink some of my projects for safety and just common sense. The pergola is out for now, as is some fence work. I need to limit my standing by about 90%. So last night I was looking at some of m...

Wow! I made it, I finally made it, and oh what a surprise to find a museum with Iconic Furniture pieces intermixed with a lot of European, Asian, Native American, Egyptian, and some strange Contemporary Stuff that someone else calls “art”. ————————- WARNING: If you are easily offended by my silly notions of what looks good and is well built, please don’t read any farther. I’m just giving my opinions, that is what ...

Roubo-Moxon Bench Build #15: Somebody Kick Me in the Pants

09-07-2011 04:15 AM by Eric | 14 comments »

Every other week or so, my wife says, “So when do you think you’ll do some more work on the bench?” And I sigh, slump, and say, “I dunno…” I’m just in a funk with this hand planing. I can’t seem to motivate myself to do it. Granted, I typically don’t get much shop time in a week anyway (even if I wanted it), but the times when I could get some in, I just balk. It seems like there is still so much material to take off the top to get it flat AND level. I don’t even feel like blogging abou...

Personal #2: How I got here - Motivation

06-07-2010 05:43 AM by RichJr | 4 comments »

Motivation – or, how I got here If you read my previous post (good lord, do you have a lot of free time…) it says nothing of how I got to HERE. It probably isn’t worth reading and will probably delete it, so let me summarize here: I’m a computer guy, no history of woodworking, recently married with new baby. I’ve had to cut ties with the hobbies that filled the small amounts of time leftover after work and family. No money to buy Video Games nor the ti...
