My usual routine is somewhat hybrid, I typically do the bulk of the removal of material with the jointer and planer, then square it up at my cross cut sled, and finally remove the scallops from the planer with a smoothing plane, and shoot the ends to final dimensions to fit. But for the purpose of demonstration, I prepared these two overly dry (20 years in a barn) air dried Walnut by hand and then with my machines to see how long each process took.
