Workshop #22: ShopQuest 2014- Lathe Set UP!!

Hey all, I am happy to report that a big part of ShopQuest 2014 has been completed. My new lathe is on a stand and all set up to try out. It was built using left over 2×4s and a new 2×12 board. Seems pretty sturdy so far and considering I am not planning on throwing a massive chunk of anything on it I think it will work well. I am planning to hopefully turn something this evening. The second piece of old fashioned book binding equipment (nearly 2” thick Maple!) going into this project: Removing metal hardware before running through the tablesaw. The mortising for it, done almost entirely by drill. threaded metal rods run through both ends, cross grain. for rigidity? structural integrity? aid in glue up? Didja guess #2? Rolled on Killz primer followed by “china cup” white which gave me a shiny white wall to work with. Whilst the paint was drying I installed all the full extension drawer rails (10 ea @ >$12 each – it ain’t cheap to refurbish a shop.) Then I cut my drawer box sides to size.
