This painting, from 1620, entitled ‘The Childhood of Christ’ was executed by Gerrit Van Honthurst, a Dutch painter from Utrecht. He travelled to Italy to imitate Caravaggio. In fact, loads of Dutch artists took the trip, and were known as the Dutch Caravaggisti. For an excellent intro to Caravaggio, Simon Schama’s The Power of Art is fantastic. Current Project #28: Next Step?

Forgive the photo from my phone (though it IS right side up!) I’m on the fence as to what to do with this project and am seeking suggestions. The letters are not glued on yet. 1) I’m thinking of either gluing the letters on as shown and finishing the piece with spray lacquer. I hesitate because I think the woods used will pretty much all look the same. 2) My other thought is to paint everything black, sand the faces of the frame and the letters and then glue the lette...

Friend of SWMBO is nice older lady who is quite devout. Thought this would make a nice gift for Easter. Bought a nice 9” tall statue of Jesus and wanted to put it in a fancy box suitable for table display. I just got the Fast-Joint Mini set up and dialed in. This was going to be a test of the jig. 9” H x 3” W x 2” D statuette with customized engraved plate.
