Weekly(ish) Blog #1: 180819 Shop Blog

New… Old Yankee Workshop If, like me, you grew up in the 80s and 90s watching Norm and his ilk on PBS, but then got into woodworking in middle-age 10 or 20 years later, you might be surprised to learn that the world has moved on. What was New Hotness of woodworking in 1988 may well be out of date 30 years later in 2018. Attachment methods, tool technology, and other techniques may have changed. You owe it to yourself to get caught up, and I haven’t found a better way to do that than Yo...

Where to Buy Screws

01-27-2018 04:44 AM by IantheTinker | 7 comments »

I mostly purchase general construction screws from Menards, the Star-bit drive ones because they don’t cam out on me like the Phillips heads do. I get them there for $3.79 per one pound box, a great price for a good screw. However, they don’t carry any shorter than 1 3/4”, so I tried at Home Depot. I found some star drive screws there for $5.78 per one pound box and they had 1”, 1 1/4”, and 1 5/8” sizes, so I was quite pleased. The price was also pretty decent in my estimation. Over at Lowe’s...

Squaring my miter saw

12-11-2011 06:19 AM by thiswoodshop | 2 comments »

I had a Ryobi 14 Amp 10 in. Compound Mitre Saw. It was working fine but could only cut a max of 5 inches wide boards. I was in the market for a new on but all of the sliding miter saw was so costly. I even considered a Harbor Freight one, but even at that it was a $100 and more for one. I decided to check out and found a Kobalt one there for s feel. Well, after I got home I found out why it was so cheap – it was not square. I tried a couple of time to square it up but it...

Home Depot goes above and beyond!

12-30-2010 10:04 PM by Rick Boyett | 3 comments » article about my recent experience with HomeDepot Below is the letter I sent to HomeDepot’s CEO. I wasn’t expecting much out of them but instead they just gave me the tool I tried to order. I even offered to pay for it but they wouldn’t take my money. Good afternoon Mr. Blake, Earlier this week I ordered a Work Sharp 3000 from (order number W118122508) after finding out that that the tool was on sale. The website indicated that this too...

My Home Depot Shopping Experience

12-21-2010 10:00 PM by PocketHole69 | 31 comments »

I promised in my letter below to share with everyone I know my home depot shopping experience, so here you go! To whom it may concern, I wanted to share with you my shopping experience at the Fayetteville, GA Home Depot store. A couple weeks ago I purchased a Ridgid oscillating spindle sander from this same store. After a couple weeks of using the tool (and enjoying it very much) it came time to buy more sandpaper sleeves for the sander. After doing a quick check of the Home Depo...
