Box joint / finger joint jigSingle blade table saw. I finally got to make my self, one of these simple box joint jigs, actually for no other reason, than the fun of it. I was planning to make some boxes on the Festool VS600 I bought a year back and never got to use…, but were only in my workshop for a short visit yesterday, so I decided to make my self a single blade jig, so I can make all types, when ever I want it. Here a sample of what it does.It was one of these aha moments, m...

finger joint jig, new design?

04-14-2016 04:38 PM by ChelseaGeorge | 5 comments »

Hi everyone, thank you for adding me to the group. I made a video about what I believe to be a new design for a box-joint (or finger-joint) jig and deposited it on YouTube for public viewing. If I’m working things properly, this should be the link: I hope you find it worthwhile.

Maybe a bit too much hype? Well, I’m pretty excited about this new “invention”. I think it’s an improvement over the box joint machine I built a couple of years ago. Yep, a project that none of you are likely to make. But forget that it’s for yarn; it’s really just a container that can be modified to fit any storage need. Also, a simple jig for making finger joints on the table saw. Read more about this project here.

Learning to design #2: Pine may simply not be the right material to test small designs + jig frustrations

I started to test my design that I sketched up. I am thinking I may have done better to make the mock-up in plywood. I probably don’t have a very gentle touch… the pine cracked when I tried to make my first finger joint. Now I have to wait another day as I glue it back together. I made a couple of modifications already. I realized the box was 11cm by 9.9cm. Why 9.9? Because I did not pay attention in the sketch. I fixed it to 10. No need to have to be precise to a millime...
