The Great Box Sale Adventure #3: I Didn't want to Do it...

08-25-2015 04:30 PM by maplerock | 15 comments »

My last (and only) attempt at a Craft/Art show was not a huge success. Other than good company and a festive atmosphere, it was a lot of work for little sales. You guys all know that woodworking is an expensive hobby (or business for you talented guys) and if you don’t make some money, you are limited in what you can do (or what the wife will allow you to do.) I have been placing a few boxes in boutiques and galleries instead of at shows. I’ve had the same lackluster resul...

The Puyallup Fair #3: Let the panic set in!

08-29-2011 12:01 AM by GodofBiscuits | 6 comments »

Today was the day! I drove out to Puyallup and dropped off the clock. The stand and clock fit very nicely in the car and had tons of room. Upon arriving at the fair grounds and finding the appropriate area to drop off, I was greeted by one of the volunteers. After some confusion about size maximums (item must not be more than 80 inches over all, width + length) I got everything out of the car and began setting up. Thankfully there were plenty of people on hand to settle the dimension confusio...

The Puyallup Fair #2: No wait... scratch that!

08-26-2011 08:38 AM by GodofBiscuits | 6 comments »

So I’ve had a little luck (Big thank you to WoodArtbyJR) getting a hold of the Hobby Hall people at the Fair and talked about my options for displaying the clock. The first option was a half wall above the display cases they store most the entries. This would be ok if the wall wasn’t 4 feet tall and started more than 6 feet above the ground. This meant, my clock would have to be displayed without the pendulum as the entire clock is over 5 feet in length with the pendulum installed...

The Puyallup Fair #1: Gearing up

08-13-2011 12:50 AM by GodofBiscuits | 6 comments »

As some here know, I enjoy entering my woodworking projects in the local Fair Competitions. This year is no exception. Last year I entered a Wooden geared clock at the Orange County Fair in Southern California. This year I will be entering the same clock in the Puyallup Fair in Western Washington (My new home). I learned a lot at the OC Fair about displaying my clocks and how the way it is judged makes a huge difference in how it is awarded. The clock was delivered to the OC Fair in pieces, s...

craft / handmade #4: Art for Life, buy handmade

08-04-2010 05:25 AM by scottb | 7 comments »

So, the granddaddy of all Craft Fairs hits NH this weekend, and for once we’re going without an empty wallet! (cause we planned for it, not cause we’re rolling in the dough). Buying handmade (and sharing the love) reminded me of Marks old post on the subject, and in light of the upcoming fair, and my plans to continue to have “a very homemade Christmas” I thought a revisit to the wise words of our resident Lumberjock extraordinare was timely. — Crossposted...
