"wild cherry sideboard"

02-13-2008 04:28 PM by cowboy | 2 comments »

Several people have asked a few questions so I thought I’s tell a little about this piece. This was a spec piece that I wanted to take to a show. The cherry came from a board I selected from a pile of 1,000 bd ft of curly cherry and was obviously one of the wowie, zowie boards. It’s obviously a version of a very old design tha’s been around for years.Truthfully I don’t do that anymore as I only use my own designs and have gotten into a different type of thing, yet similiar....

Zuni Bench

02-13-2008 03:50 PM by cowboy | 2 comments »

First of all I want to thank people for the kind words concernign this piece.Since there has been several questions about it I thought I’d take this time to talk about it.This piece has an interesting story about how it came to be.I had just finished a really large piece, very involved, very over the top(I’m lookin for a picture now),and wanted a break from the large project and gave myself a self imposed design project, build and design something with this small amount of wood that...

Hall Table #1: A little catch up

02-09-2008 01:30 AM by shawnseanderson | 0 comments »

I thought that I would take a little time to show how we went about the construction of the hall table. This project is currently in the final stages but I can backtrack a little for the sake of discussion. Check back a little later and I will update with some pictures. We started the table off at the lumber store. (almost my favorite place to be) We spent a good deal of time trying to decide what wood that we wanted to use and finally settled on Mahogany. We had some concern about the col...

Which Tool Would You Buy???

01-30-2008 09:25 AM by Brad | 10 comments »

My birthday is coming up and I’ve told everyone nothing but money because I want to get some new tools. I’m guessing all in all I’ll have around $500 to spend. I’m considering a band saw, 13” planer, biscuit jointer or a new router/plunge router combo. So what do you guys think??? Which is going to give me the best advance in shop versatility?

New tools for the shop!!!

01-29-2008 04:15 PM by itsme_timd | 5 comments »

I just looked at my workshop page and noticed that in the few months I’ve been on here I’ve been really busy building out my shop, I’ve made a few small purchases along the way and went all out this week and bought a few big items. I was invited to join a local group of woodworkers here and was introduced to craigslist as well as going to ‘The Woodworking Show’ here in Atlanta last weekend. I’ve never been much for moderation or patience; I’ve really put a lot into my shop in a short amoun...

01-26-2008 08:06 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 6 comments »

I completed the box yesterday, but I’ve been struggling to get my camera to work. All of the light areas of an image have a pink tinge, & I can’t edit the pink out. I even tried taking pictures outside, but it was even worse. Here’s an out door picture, Blah!! Maybe someone has a cure for this disease. HELP!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~In the meantime I’d like to tell about my recent discovery. Barb has mult...

My 2008 "Not Just Any Box" Winter Awards #7: Carving Roses wasn't very Rosie!

01-22-2008 10:06 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 11 comments »

The first Rose handle I carved, didn’t give me any trouble, but I wasn’t satisfied with the light color of the sapwood. So I decided to go with the darker heartwood. I cut some rose patterns for a couple of Roses. I started carving a couple of flower petals, & snap! the flower broke off of the 3/8” stem. So I decided to go with a 1/2’’ stem, & the same thing happened, SNAP! The burly heartwood is kind of brittle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...

2X4 Winter Contest #1: The beginning

01-07-2008 04:16 AM by Jamie | 4 comments »

Well, I started working on my 2×4 project today. Last weekend I picked up a bunch of 2×4’s at Lowes to construct a new lumber rack, with 1 to spare for the contest. I was a little afraid that one 2×4 wouldn’t be enough to complete the project, but it looks like I will have a few scraps left. I cut some of the pieces today, 4 – 18” long pieces have been jointed and edge-glued together to form one plank (needed it to be a little longer than what is r...
