We’re slowly changing the furniture out in our summer home with Green and Green style Furniture. I’m starting a bedroom set which will consist of a Bed, two night stands, Dresser, highboy or an armoire. Darrell Peart has designed and made a bed called the fantasia. The bed isnt easy to find on his site because it’s not shown with his bedroom furniture. You can see it here.

I’ve been an admirer of Greene and Greene style of furniture for a long time. I love the soft edges and exposed joinery and I think Greene and Greene were masters at proportions which is where I feel I am the weakest when it comes to design. I’ve been wanting to take my woodworking up a notch and try something a little more challenging than the stuff I’ve been doing and improve my design skills so I’d been looking for an appropriate project. This interview took place in March of 2009 at the William Ng School. I took Darrell’s Aurora End Table class and he was kind enough to sit and chat with me about all kinds of things: influences, design theories, copying other works, and Greene & Greene. Darrell also gives a few tips to help bring out that inner designer inside of all of us (if it isn’t coming out naturally). What a fun week that was!
