Selling Serving Boards at Juried Show

01-06-2014 01:44 PM by prospector45 | 8 comments »

What a journey of four weeks from early Nov to first weekend of Dec. My bride and I had just left one of my retailers without a check. Sad Day. Now we had to determine what is the best way to sell the serving/cutting boards and bookmarks. Sondra, my bride, on the travel home was searching on the phone for shows in December. There were two the first weekend of December. One in Wooster, about 5 years continuity; one in Akron, 35 years of continuity with over 100+ vendors, two booths remain...

Reclaimed Glory #13: From cabinetry cut-offs to Simple box and Cutting board (in progress)

10-15-2013 10:06 PM by palaswood | 2 comments »

I have a bunch of cut-offs from a local cabinet shop that deals mainly with Cherry but I also get a good amount of Poplar from there. From the medium sized pieces (all 3/4”), I selected some nice poplar front and back, some cherry for the sides and I had one long board of Cherry that had a knot in the middle (so was discarded), and I simply cut the knot out and used each end for the top and bottom. It’s 9×4 x 3” high. I just set them up, and eyeballed it ...

In the shop #1: Back to work - Simple Cutting board

09-22-2013 11:53 PM by WayneC | 22 comments »

I’ve been out of the shop for quite a while for a variety of reasons. Recently, I’ve been cleaning, organizing and reworking storage for my tools. Also, I have been doing some restoration work in the Kitchen. Rebuilding cabinets, refinishing and rebuilding doors. One of the chores that needs to be done is to replace the pull-out cutting board. This is the old one. It fits into this slot in the counter. The only real design changes I am planning is to make the ...

Homemade router milling machine ready to launch for others to enjoy.

02-08-2013 02:28 AM by Mark55 | 8 comments »

I have posted my machine on here a couple times and kept promising that I was going to get it to the point where I would have plans ready for it. This has turned out to be a very daunting task . At first glance of the machine it does not look too overwhelming. But, when you break it down there are many many parts and details to make this thing work the way it does. Before I go any farther though there is one person on here I want to thank for all the help . I would not have gotten this far wi...

....and I thought my day was over :)

12-23-2012 02:37 AM by JSB | 7 comments »

With my wife being at her mother’s in preparation for Christmas I am home alone. I got in from the shop earlier and thought to myself “All this free time and I came back home???” Back to the shop! I did a well needed clean up and blow out and found myself with some rare, spare shop time. So here’s what I started. A couple days ago I found another sofa headed to the landfill. I had a small sledge and a razor blade knife so I decide why not. After chopping most of...

Resawing - The boards have eyes...

12-06-2012 04:54 AM by David Craig | 16 comments »

One of the pleasant things about moving from a beginner to a more intermediate stage in woodworking is that you start paying attention to things you didn’t really focus on before. My work tonight, for example, involves a little more thought about grain orientation in glue-ups. I am still working on cutting boards, I have to have a dozen made in the next week or so. As I am moving along, I have had to give some more concentrated thought in regards to the wood pieces I salvaged and how...

Bread Cutting Board

11-29-2012 01:07 AM by David Craig | 14 comments »

The rumors are true. Occasionally, I actually do some woodworking. Many times I just have a limited amount of time and don’t post. I still need to get a digital camera to make the process easier. I was asked if I could make a dozen small bread cutting boards to be used for sending loaves out, along with jam, as Christmas gifts. As luck would have it, the same person also wanted me to help get rid of an old red oak hutch for her. So I am killing two birds with one stone here. The h...
