curly cherry finish tests #1: tung oil etc.

08-12-2015 12:07 AM by harum | 5 comments »

Continued testing finishes for curly cherry started with varnishes and shellacs. Having read much about how tung oil brings out chatoyance, I applied for comparison one coat each: (a) 2 lbs. cut ruby shellac, (b) pure tung oil from Woodcraft, and ( c) Bulls Eye seal coat from Zinsser. I contacted him a while back to inquire about ordering some curly maple from him and found him to be a really great guy to work with. I opened the shipping boxes last night and heard the roar of tigers as the curly figuring of both cherry and maple jumped out at me. I was literally amazed. I don’t have any good lumber shops around me that balance both pri...
