Where to find motivation!

06-02-2016 01:24 AM by Jbreth | 3 comments »

So, after doing woodworking for 15+ years as a career, I have come to a midlife crisis as it may seem. I absolutely cannot find motivation to get in the garage and do what I love most. It saddens me deeply as it seems that my creativity has left every vein in my body and I cannot find the motivation to do much of anything these days. I don’t know if it has anything to do with being laid off a couple times in my work career, or what but motivation is no where to be found. I try and t...

The Shape of Things

How many ways are there to shape a leg? To follow a line down to solid earth or to take a sinuous climb up its curve. To have the grain follow the line with careful choice of material and to accentuate the flow. Or to give it the role of foundation, holder, rock. You are the designer. Make your choices. Creating a Portal between My Niece and Nephew's Rooms

11-03-2014 02:50 PM by PowerToolsPlanet | 2 comments »

When I decided to take up my best friend on his invitation to see his new home in Norway, and meet my newborn niece, I expected long fishing trips, dinner with the family and the occasional Viking drunken brawl. We did all of that, so my expectations were met, but our fishing trips were cut in half because my friend’s better half, Margrete, wanted to join the children’s rooms through a simple square portal and since she knew I had handled several such projects back in Maine, she a...

A Strategy for Woodworking #23: Create

09-02-2014 02:09 PM by Gary Rogowski | 2 comments »

Quit believing that you are not creative. Kurt Vonnegut said: “do art and do it for the rest of your lives”. If you stifle yourself you will fulfill your prophecy of silence. If you explore your life, your interests, the ideas and images that excite you, then you will unlock all sorts of unforeseen doors. Can’t know, won’t know, unless you try. My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #534: Two Videos About Creativity in Today's World

11-26-2011 02:00 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 9 comments »

Yesterday I saw a couple of interesting videos. Although they are not directly about woodworking, I think that they pertain to many of us who are involved in not only creating woodworking projects, but also those who design their own patterns for furniture, boxes and all other projects. My brother was the one who sent me the links. He said that they made him think of me and how when watching them he wondered how differently my life may have been if everyone thought more like the guy who w...

Shoe Carving Challenge #7: Creativity

10-08-2010 05:09 PM by MsDebbieP | 18 comments »

Oct. 8/10 This morning, feedback from my shoe carving peers got me thinking about “creativity”. My mind, and Spirit, I guess, are very creative. They really enjoy thinking and envisioning the possibilities. Yesterday, I started feeling comfortable with the carving process, giving me some breathing room, and my creative side kicked into gear. I am now seeing lots of new projects ready to unfold. This blossoming of creativity, however, gives me another challenge because the...
