Today, I cut a tenon using my Japanese Saw, Timber framing chisel and #4 hand plane. I filmed it and timed it. I want as many guesses as possible as to how long it took to cut the tenon using these tools. A lot of woodworkers don’t realize how efficient hand-tools can be. The more guesses the better. The winner will get a prize!

I was traveling for work this week so I only got a few minutes in the shop to work on my “Shop Time Throwdown” clock, but I did gather most of the lumber and parts that I’ll need to make it all come together. Here’s the update video: https://youtu.be/fnWqhqOlWEo

Back in February I noticed that one of my buddies on Youtube had fallen off the face of the earth, so I tossed him a note and learned that he had fallen into a funk. In order to get him back from he dark side I decided to issue a challenge that would force us both back into our shops. Here’s the original challenge video: http://youtu.be/nodCUmv8fns
Here’s Jay’s acceptance video:http://youtu.be/cn-fDmvgXuk

My entry for the Summer’s Woodworking 2×4 Contest. Carl Jacobson joked about making a rocket ship from a 2×4 so I took up the challenge. Hope you enjoy the video, bonus footage at the end of my daughter and I “flying” the rocket.

Many of you may have already heard about Steve Good’s blog. For several years now, Steve puts out a blog nearly every day to promote scroll sawing. In fact, it is because of Steve that I began my own blog on the Lumberjocks.com site and now have nearly 1300 entries. He has become a friend and a mentor of mine, and he was the one who introduced me to Lumberjocks.com.
Steve’s blog and website is great. Not only does it have the blog, but it also has a wonderful and active foru...

Please Consider Checking Out My Website: MonkWerks.org
Lets make one thing clear: I was certainly not expecting to be writing this blog entry this week. I had a lovely little piece on some preliminary reports that showed the shavings (only garnered from boards planed with a #365 Stanley Jointer plane) from 3000 year old, spalted, birdseye, curly, Spanish, aromatic bubinga cured CANCER. I had to hit the delete key, however when two things happened: 1) The world’s supply of the wood...

I’ve been meaning to make my 8 year-old a workbench so he can ‘help’ me when I’m out in the shop, but kept putting it off. When I saw Baligh’s latest contest, I couldn’t think of an idea for a project, then it hit me: “I’ll make a workbench!”. So, here it goes.
This is what I started with: 1- 8’ 2×8 piece of Douglas Fir, 6 board feet of 1×6 pine, 1-4×4x1/2 sheet of CDX plywood (not shown), 1-3’x1” ...
