There is a lot of noise when searching woodworking topics. Everything I have purchased or built for my shop so far has cost me time and effort. Some were especially difficult because of the opposing opinions on the internet. The noise can be loud and polar opposite opinions split 50/50. The latest cause for strained eyes has been which bandsaw, which boils down to bearings or ceramics. But I did find an incredibly good answer to which vise I could get that fit my needs, diverse, function...

Simple might still be overstating things…
I needed to make a circular hole in a speaker baffle at a hair over 9”. I love using templates with my routers… But, I needed to make an accurate template. I hate taking the screws out of my router bottom plates… I’m always losing the screws!
So, I contemplated.
Made a few starts.
Then, was suddenly hit with inspiration!
I have a little battery operated Ridgid Trim Router that I use for soooo many thing...

I live in Bend Oregon and I am in need of some 6/4 black walnut. Wondering if anyone has experience with purchasing 6/4 walnut at around $6 bd/ft. I have no problem ordering online, but shipping can be expensive. Any direction would help

Alaskan Chainsaw Mill V2.0 is going to be a follow on to the review I posted around this time last year. It seems to have been fairly liked considering it now shows up on Google within the first page of search results. Just type in “Chainsaw Mill” into Google and you will see it within a scroll or two. I’ll thank you all on Lumberjocks for that.
Note: some of the images are large but if you right click on them and “Open image in new tab.” You will be able to see...

Hi folks! So this past weekend I turned a bunch of free industrial pallets into a new workbench! I still have to add a vice and some shelving down below, but the main bench is finished!

Hi there folks! Just thought I’d share with you all my latest project, where I make a sign for my workshop out of an old cutting board. The finished piece is not perfect, but neither is my woodworking!!
Hope you enjoy!

So I went to my local salvage/resale store today looking for anything cool they might have up in the tool section. After rummaging through all the junk I found a complete postwar Stanley #4 bench plane for $3.00, some halfway decent rasps for $0.25 each, and few other odds and ends. As I was leaving I decided to dig through all the hand saws they had jammed in an old slop sink. After going through about 30 of them I came across an early Disston. I looked at it for a little while and the handl...

Sometimes motivation behind building something as opposed to buying has to do with availability. Sometimes it has to do with cost. Sometimes it has to do with quality. In this case it has to do with all three. I set out to build blast gates with scrap material I had laying around. Mainly I did this because I didn’t want to have to order blast gates and deal with the shipping, and the cheap ones seemed a little….flimsy? There are high quality ones out there, but why pay for th...

So, it finally occurred to me that I should be looking to Craigslist for used tool deals. It’s not like I didn’t know I should. Sometimes, it takes more twacks from the two-by-four.
I live in a rural area, in the middle of nowhere, equidistant from anything important. It took a bit of search engine extortion to get listings for my fair little cow country. The best deal was a Makita Model 5008NBA 8-1/4” Circular Saw (less blade) for twenty-five bucks:
No...
