My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #122: Building a Bridge 2

10-03-2010 03:06 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 7 comments »

”We build too many walls and not enough bridges” – Isaac Newton I had a lot of fun yesterday. I finished my little bridge and even though I had made one previously that went to the magazine, I had learned some things on this site that made the glue up much easier and it went together like clockwork. It was only a couple of months ago when I struggled to make the first one, and it made me feel good to think that I learned so much in such a short time. It went together so...

Victorian Skater Pond Scene #7: Stephen - The Little Sledding Boy

09-25-2010 06:44 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 6 comments »

Stephen loves sledding. Although he tried his best at ice skating, for some reason he wound up slidng on his bottom more than gliding on his skates. Last Christmas Santa brought his a beautiful red sled. Stephen was thrilled! He couldn’t wait to pull that sled up the highest hill in town and come soaring back down. Now THIS was fun! I’ve been poking along with this project, fitting it in with other chores around the house. It seems like as a person gets older, it takes more time to get anything done, but it gradually gets done.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After attaching the side panels, I glued in a piece of foam pad as a silencer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To stretch my plywood, plus protect the ply edges, I glued ...

A few months ago I had read an article about ebonizing wood with steel wool and vinegar. Awhile back I tried this and absolutely nothing happened. I never even tried again. Ebonizing is a stain of sorts I guess. I also have heard there are several ways of doing this.
