My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1181: FINALLY I am Back to Drawing!

12-03-2013 01:09 PM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 7 comments »

After what seems like months (it really wasn’t!) I finally got back to drawing and I will be working on a new painting/wood design today. I know I have said that before recently, but “life” and a busy, growing business just got in the way. Believe me – this is not a complaint. I love being busy doing what I love to do but it seems that there are so many creative things that I like, I have difficulty finding the time to do them. Several days ago I bought an avocad...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1120: Variations on the New Halloween Ornaments

09-02-2013 11:28 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 2 comments »

Those of you who read daily know that I like to make different versions of projects. I talk many people who prefer different techniques and I try to accommodate as many as I can. Besides – I really like the variety and playing around with seeing the different ways to finish projects. Last week I introduced some new ornaments for Halloween. One set was of Halloween keys, with the key tops being made of cute characters. But some people didn’t care for the key theme, so I made...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1115: Halloween Key Ornament Variations

08-28-2013 11:08 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 11 comments »

Yesterday was incredibly busy! It seemed like every second of the day was filled up, and while I felt I was really running, I did accomplish a great deal so it wasn’t a bad thing at all. I started out at 6am and didn’t call it a night until after midnight, but I am so happy with all that got done that until the very end, I didn’t even feel tired. It started out with taking sweet Coco to the vet. Once again I have to give kudos to the new vet and office. Not only did the...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1076: Body Parts

07-08-2013 10:32 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 14 comments »

While I worked on my project most of the day, I still have another day to go before it is (hopefully) completed. I don’t really mind though, as it is coming out nicely and I also am learning how to use some new products and figuring out new techniques in applying them. I always like to look at each pattern as a lesson. Besides just the basic line work and construction of the project, I like to think that those who use my patterns are not only putting together the pieces, but learni...

My Garage/Work Shop Makeover #8: New Miter Saw Station - Construction Details

07-04-2013 04:53 AM by MT_Stringer | 8 comments »

I have been working diligently trying to get this phase of the makeover finished. Here are some pics of the construction. Case work with drawer slides ready for drawers or trays. Top of the cabinet. The miter saw portion will bolt on to the top of the two cabinets. Laying out the templates for the sides and ends. Dang that MDF makes a lot of dust. Rough cutting the openings so I can route ‘em smooth using the template I cut from MDF. Two routers are better than one! He...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1068: 12 Days and Counting . . .

06-28-2013 11:31 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 7 comments »

As it turned out, I spent the bulk of yesterday finishing up and refining the 12 Days ornament set(s). What I thought would only take an hour or two, wound up taking until nearly 10pm in the evening. I say that without dismay or disappointment. Things just take time. While the main parts of the pieces were completed, I still needed to do refinements on them as well as finish them. The edges of the ornaments weren’t painted, and while the edges of the laser cut pieces that were pro...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1065: Knowing When to say "When"

06-23-2013 10:46 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 1 comment »

I got up this morning and I still felt a bit tired. Those of you who know me and have read over these past three plus years know that doesn’t really happen often. I suppose that it is just one of those times when I need to take a breath. I worked pretty much all day yesterday on packing up the order for wholesale. Keith did the drilling (for the hanging holes for the ornaments) and helped pack the patterns into the plastic bags while I finished printing the patterns and then added ...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #1033: One Task Done (Sort of!) On to the Next!

05-14-2013 11:29 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 7 comments »

Well I finally finished what I had been working on for the past several days. At least “Phase 1” of the design – creating the first prototypes. I now feel pretty good about things and feel like I am able to move forward with other things. Designing painting patterns is a great deal different than designing woodworking patterns. When working on scrolling patterns, the bulk of the time is spent in the drawing. Once the computer work is done there are usually only some m...

Bench Hooks!

10-16-2012 12:27 AM by RaggedKerf | 0 comments »

To see the pictures, please click here or see my project page. To top off a really productive day, I decided it was time to make me some bench hooks. I have been putting it off out of sheer laziness, but the last couple days I’ve had to do some random work out in the shop and thought to myself, “Self, you sure could use some damn bench hooks right about now…”. I thought that one too many times and decided today was the day I made sure I didn’t need to think ...

My Journey As A Creative Designer - Woodworking and Beyond #716: On to the Next . . .

05-29-2012 11:45 AM by Sheila Landry (scrollgirl) | 6 comments »

We had quite a day here yesterday, filled with excitement. Not the kind of crazy excitement that you are probably thinking of, but we are ‘mature’ (ha!) country people and it doesn’t take much for us to be excited. My partner Keith got his new computer case yesterday. For those of you who don’t know, he isn’t only my fellow designer, but also the ‘technological genius’ behind Sheila Landry Designs. While I am the one who has most of the contact ...
