Got some time at the lathe today and here’s what happened:
Took me almost an hour per leg, but the last one went quicker than the first couple, so there was progress. Most of the work was done with the skew, but a little with a thumbnail gouge and some with a domed scraper.
Then it was time to bore holes for the stretchers. I marked a center in the worst side of each leg, and drilled with a brace and a half-inch auger bit until I heard the little tschick of the lead screw popping ou...

Acually this should have been part one since it was the first af the tools I restored… Hmmm life ain’t logic, so why should my blog be so…The summer 2015 I was at a marked with some friends, there were a guy selling tools, he had gotten his hands on a museum that was closing down and so he had some interesting things, I bought a few, just the once I needed…

Spoon and reamer augersmuseum tools back to life
The summer 2015 I was at a marked with some friends, there were a guy selling tools, he had gotten his hands on a museum that was closing down and so he had some interesting things, I bought a few, just the once I needed… Laugh.The reason I did not buy too many, was that there were worm in all the wood and I don’t bring that into my workshop shop, if I do, they have to get new wood or a treatment if I judge it possible.

In the above video I share a tutorial on how to choose and sharpen augers and auger bits.
The most important consideration when buying vintage auger bits is the lead screw. If it’s blunt then you won’t have luck in getting your auger bit started into the wood. And that will lead to no hole in your wood!

Auger drill bit stop DIY blogin less than an hour!
Yesterday Brit Andy posted some pictures of deep stops for auger bits, I do have a deep stop as you can read in his blog, but I always like to take the challenge of making tools that everyone else can make after and so I spend an hour today, and here comes the result.
This was what I thought of, and made a sketch after the write with Andy.
