Well it has been a few months now with all the restrictions but progress has been made slowly. The last pictures showed the Mossie in a carved out shape from a huge olive stump around 3-400 years old you can tell by the red colour. The only tools used is a Chain saw for the stump and a small band saw for the parts also a very small drill 2mm bit . Cutting and shaping this olive wood is no mean feat the wood is hard and soft in places which did surprise me a little being this old, it would bre...

Arts and craft clock...fuming

03-13-2021 04:38 PM by Brodan | 2 comments »

Starting with an old piece of plank flooring saved from a remodel we did. Have been wanting to build a clock in the arts and craft style. Using a combination ofarticles in Stickleys craftsman series and projects posted by other lumberjocks to come up with a design. Fumed using household ammonia in a cooler for about 48 hours. I expected it a little darker after 48 hours but I’m happy with the color after shellac . Pic of with and without fuming , both with 1 coat of shellac. I ...

Dealing with a blank wall #9: Door #2 done...problems arise

02-20-2021 02:34 PM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

Yep, Door #2 came out of the clamps looking great… Even the inside looked better… Figured I could set both doors on the case, just to see how things would look… Hmmm…something wasn’t quite right…tried to set both doors..but they would not line up with either the top or bottom shelves AND the sides of the case….got to checking the case itself…..1/4” out of square…grrr. Decided to at least install one door…Hinge tools...

Dealing with a blank wall #10: Almost done, handles, latches, and and a stain

Had a series of tasks to do….remove the clamps from the doors…drill 2 holes for the two knobs… Glue and clamp into place…and let sit a while. In order to install these mounting brackets… I had a problem, again… Bracket at the bottom was easy enough to do…pilot holes, even. Towel rod was a bit in the way, mehBut to do the top bracket…inside the case, underneath the top of the case… The drill will not fit here. So, while t...

Dealing with a blank wall #8: Build a door 101

02-17-2021 02:07 PM by bandit571 | 1 comment »

or two…Was thinking of a way to clamp the corners …flat…Settled on a couple wooden pads, and a c clamp for each corner..went to the shop (on a Monday?) and made a bunch of pads up.. Just scraps of cedar, cut into pads just big enough to cover the corner joint….all the glue goes into that corner…So…tried this method out…3rd hand to help hold the stile still, long enough.. Spread some glue…add the two pads and a c clamp I had preset.. Ok,...

Pony cart restoration

07-29-2020 01:29 AM by lotsaglue | 2 comments »

I took on a project that seems to be testing all of my woodworking knowledge. I’m rebuilding this pony cart from the ground up. My first test is going to see if I remember how to re-lace a spokes bicycle wheel. It’s only been about 25 years s since I’ve done one but it’s all coming back to me. I’m taking the wheels in for powder coat.Working on the seats. Had to build a jig to get a tight joint

Outdoor Table Top finishing

02-09-2021 12:51 AM by Beachware | 0 comments »

I am carving a design into a flat table top , to be used outdoors at sub zero temperatures. I was told that you cannot protect it with an epoxy resin finish in outdoor conditions. What are my other options to seal the carved grooves outside ?
