Designing a Christmas Wreath #4: Changed My Mind

12-12-2014 11:55 PM by KomputerMan | 0 comments »

I changed my mind about the Christmas Wreath I was building for the Festival of Trees. Even though I built three sets of ornaments for a wreath I decided to skip the wreath due to financial issues. That doesn’t mean I didn’t still build and donate something to the event because I did! I just changed my donation from a wreath to a Christmas Decor item. Actually it was a pretty fun project as I first had to make tweaks to the Santa Hat. I like how the hat turned out mysel...

Crazy Stuff Stumpy Thinks About #47: One man's artsy is another man's fartsy...

A closely watched internet auction ended this morning. And by closely watched, I mean a total of five people, including myself, noticed it a few minutes before the end and checked back from time to time to see if it attracted any bids. It didn’t. Maybe it was the thousand dollar starting price that turned away prospective buyers. Or it could have been that the item was a worn out wooden hand plane with an old TV antenna stuck in the end. To be fair, it wasn’t ONLY a worn out wooden hand plane...

The Great Box Sale Adventure #1: The Great Box Sale Adventure... a Novellette Part One

05-25-2014 12:01 AM by maplerock | 13 comments »

I had some interest from fellow Lumberjocks to let them know how the sales were at the show this weekend. Here’s a lengthy recap. You may want to get some snacks now or visit the restroom before proceeding. Day one of art show box sales is in the books. Day two is tomorrow. Let’s start at the beginning. Boxguy came up with a bright idea months ago, that he and I team up and present our boxes to the world at a local art show. I agreed and the wheels were set in motion. ...

I should start showing the beginning picture of my burnings so you can see what I work off of. 07-22-2013 06:33 AM by Margo | 1 comment »

Here is my very first attempt at scroll sawing and doing a ‘stack’ cut. Gave one to my sister. My brother-in-law has shown me how to drill the pilot holes, do stacking and cutting out of this frog, my sister helped with the painting and now I am HOOKED. Can’t wait for my new scroll saw to get here. :-) Thanks for looking, Maggie Nell

pyrographics #3: another little secretr on woodburning

06-09-2013 01:32 AM by Jim Earl | 1 comment »

While setting here at my desk with another Burning on the table, I was thinking that ONE VERY IMPORTANT secret is(just like with woodworking, painting a masterpiece work of art, YOU have to look for the SOUL OF THE PICTURE. With wood burning, anyone can trace over a picture but you have to look inside the picture for the depth of each color. With a pattern being Black, white and many tone of gray this is where you can tell the difference in the picture. I really can’t describe how o loo...

Fish Out of Water - Intarsia Woodworking

04-04-2013 12:25 PM by Chris Mobley | 1 comment »

Fish Out of Water – Intarsia Woodworking Most everything that I do, I do with someone in mind and/or for some reason. I very rarely make something just to make it. I found a picture a while back that I really liked of a fish jumping up out of the water to catch a dragon-fly. What drew me to this design was the way the water seemed to splash right out of the frame over a log. I had it printed and held on to it until now. My brother-in-law had a band saw that he never used and it seem...

A New Adventure at The Lace Bandana

03-26-2013 01:01 PM by Chris Mobley | 3 comments »

I was flipping through our local newspaper this weekend when I came upon an article about a new local business that has just recently opened in Azle, TX. called The Lace Bandana. What caught my eye were photographs of homemade crafts and art from local artisans from around the area. I read the article to find out that a mother daughter duo has opened this unique store to give local vendors an opportunity to share in their passion of creating and selling one of a kind products. I just h...
