Upcoming Awards Event and Multipurposing Some Wood First of all if you’ve not been reading my series on the upcoming and ongoing ”LJ Woodworking Awards – Winter 2008” then you might want to click here and read what a lot of LJ’s have all-ready been reading about now and discussing since Debbie announced the ”Upcoming Awards Event” in the November eMag. "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner"; a Scrimshaw Art Demonstration at the Senior Center

09-26-2007 01:28 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 14 comments »

About a month ago I received a phone call asking if I would demonstrate the Art of Scrimshaw at the Senior Center in Marion, KS. The lady that called said that she has held onto a brochure of mine since 2003 that someone had given her then, and so she decided to see if I would come and talk to the group. I asked a bunch of questions, and for some reason had it sunk in my mind that we were talking about the nursing home crowd for the demonstration. I haven’t been to a nursing home much si...

Intarsia Basics #6: We are Almost There!!

06-25-2012 01:00 AM by KoryK | 14 comments »

Welcome back and again sorry for taking so long to get this post out. After my hand healed I was really backed up on some other projects. I’m almost caught up and will post some of those projects on my page in the next couple of days. When we left off we had all the sanding done and are ready for staining and finishing. I’m making two of these frogs, one that will need staining and one out of exotic wood so everyone can participate in this project. We will go over staining next. I’m...

The Great Box Sale Adventure #1: The Great Box Sale Adventure... a Novellette Part One

05-25-2014 12:01 AM by maplerock | 13 comments »

I had some interest from fellow Lumberjocks to let them know how the sales were at the show this weekend. Here’s a lengthy recap. You may want to get some snacks now or visit the restroom before proceeding. Day one of art show box sales is in the books. Day two is tomorrow. Let’s start at the beginning. Boxguy came up with a bright idea months ago, that he and I team up and present our boxes to the world at a local art show. I agreed and the wheels were set in motion. ...

The Wood Thief

02-15-2013 02:00 PM by Chris Mobley | 13 comments »

The Wood Thief – MaggieThis past weekend, I realized I was being robbed by the wood thief. I began several new projects for clients and friends. One piece in particular, has a significant amount of very small pieces of wood. Each piece is cut out, sanded, and put together like a jig saw puzzle. I turned around to do some sanding and when I came back to my work bench, I notice one of my pieces that I had just completed was missing. After looking under my workbench and around the area,...

Echo-Friendly Ways To Work the Wood ....your wooden soul, is but the sole of your sitting, and as all rustic tools of wood, your rustic spirit creates an image for imagination…. ....hand planning…. ....with a vivid imagination…. In this day of high tech, high price tags and higher yet soaring costs of what many think they need, to have a go at woodworking, along with all those needed add-ons….that one must purchase after the initial major pu...

Surrounded by Wood and Snow --RusticWoodArt

01-02-2008 01:53 PM by frank | 12 comments »

Surrounded by Wood and Snow ....and so once again the gods said; ”let there be snow” and on the second day of the new year there was…. Up here in New England I sometimes wonder if I’m being ‘snowed in’ or ‘snowed out’? I don’t have a lot of extra time this morning as I’m soon out the door, after some breakfast….to get this place opened up. Now some may wonder what’s the difference to being ‘snowed in’...
