Intarsia Basics #1: Introduction and Invitation to All.

03-18-2012 10:53 PM by KoryK | 42 comments »

Hello to all and all are Welcome, Intro: Hi, my name is Kory Kiker and a couple of weeks ago Ms. Debbie contacted me about conducting an online class for those interested in learning the art of intarsia. I was very excited about the chance to share a few things I have learned in the last three years of doing intarsia art. Before intarsia I did a lot of wood carving so I hope this helps give each project more depth and definition. I will tell you now that most of the things I’ve lear...

Entry Closet Project #8: The End is Here!

01-09-2008 04:58 AM by Todd A. Clippinger | 32 comments »

Finished! Well it’s been a long journey and it did not end without one extra push. I finished installing the copper handles Monday by 11:30. There was a couple of scratches but I was certain I could buff them out. This is a skill that goes with the territory. I worked on the finish for the next six hours and I could not get the finish to blend. How to Remove a Scratch- After exhausting all other options this is what I resorted to today: Yes you are seeing it correctly...

04-03-2011 10:21 PM by Div | 25 comments »

Some of you might very well know what a red sticker on the price card means. I’m talking about the price card of pieces at an art exhibition….Well, I have some news to share… Today, the “Out of the wood” Exhibition opened at Strydom Gallery in George, a smallish city/large town here in the Southern Cape, South Africa. Apart from sculpture, wood turning and paintings, a total of 5 furniture makers, including myself, have 25 furniture pieces on display. With the exhibition opening at 11h0...

My First Exhibit

04-07-2010 01:26 PM by Triumph1 | 25 comments »

Two years ago I set a personal goal to get some of my work in a public exhibit…well it finally has happened. I am showing five pieces in the 2010 Spring Membership Show of the Lake County Art League. It is definitely a different feeling putting your work out in public locally than uploading pictures internationaly:-) Lumberjocks is an amazing site but I would also encourage people to get involved with local Art Leagues/clubs. From what I have seen on this site we can for sure show p...

Wow! I made it, I finally made it, and oh what a surprise to find a museum with Iconic Furniture pieces intermixed with a lot of European, Asian, Native American, Egyptian, and some strange Contemporary Stuff that someone else calls “art”. ————————- WARNING: If you are easily offended by my silly notions of what looks good and is well built, please don’t read any farther. I’m just giving my opinions, that is what ...

2009 large chip carving #2: Lets make it larger!

12-19-2010 02:24 PM by Roger Strautman | 21 comments »

Sorry for such a long delay on this piece. After I had this piece done I decided that it needed something so I added the chip carved folding wings which can changed it from a 24” square to a 36” diamond. I cut the folding leaves so the inner rosette could be seen when closed. I spent 8 hours cutting, fitting, and hinging the walnut to the panels. I have somewhere around 300-400 hours in this piece.

Relief Carving My Birger Sandzen-Inspired Desk Door Panel, A step-by-Step Log.

10-10-2007 01:31 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 19 comments »

I hesitate to do this, that which I am about to do. I don’t fancy myself as a good carver, or a great picture drawer. Especially with so many lumberjocks that are great carvers here that will see this. On top of that, there are so many great carvers on the internet that will stumble onto this blog because they surf the net. With that said, after Mark Mazzo asked about the process I go through to do a carved panel like this one, I thought about it for awhile, and decided to show th...
