Using Recycled Wood

12-28-2006 11:20 PM by Ethan Sincox | 7 comments »

WARNING – This is journal writing at its best; blog writing at its worst… When I’m truly in my journal-writing mode, length is unimportant to me. This is not really good “blog” material – but it is how I write and how I unwind. I needed a bit of writing to destress today. The project last posted by Frank touched on a subject I’ve been warming up to for some time now – the use of reclaimed and recycled wood. With his artistic vision and cr...

”Integrity” ....some might add and say at this point in the process that a woodworkers rite of passage is how well did he//she cultivate their own sense of worth at finding ‘integrity’....and then once found, can I be true to my definition of ‘integrity’? Integrity is by sense of definition at www.wordsmyth.net; “a strong sense of honesty and morality; firmness of moral and ethical character.” I remember reading I believe last January, tha...

Overcoming Woodworking Fear

12-28-2006 03:59 AM by Don | 29 comments »

Today, I’m going back to a project I completed in June 2005, a rocking chair. The end result looked beautiful (to my eyes) until I sat in it, that is. You see, the problem with my rocker is that it doesn’t rock. Somewhere along the line, I had made an error, or perhaps a series of errors that resulted in the center-of-gravity being too far forward. The result was that when one sat in the chair, it would rock 1/3 forward and 2/3’s back. Very unnatural, and most uncomfo...

Reminiscing about snow again!

12-27-2006 06:50 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 5 comments »

Yesterday while talking about snow, & added my carved moose antler project, it was brought up about me working with different kinds of material. I’ve also worked with steel. I mentioned the department I worked for groomed snowmobile trails. The department allowed me to design, & fabricate a machine for smoothing, & packing trails. I built two of these machines. Here are some images of the machine. PS: Wood is still my favorite material. Machine pulled by Bombardier tr...

”Poetic Wood Curlings” ....i am the one who is now speaking from within my wood of grain as your hand slides over me, feeling my texture for all its worth and yes i wait expectantly humbled by the power of this moment that one such as yourself, a master artist of unparalleled worlds should choose me as the object of your next expression of love…. ....how did it ever come to this i have not the faintest clue, but i have heard the other trees of the forest talk of one su...

Boxing Day

12-27-2006 01:18 AM by Don | 4 comments »

Not many people have a day named after their woodworking passion. I guess I should be thankful. I propose that we name a few more days after other woodworking specialties. We could have Furniture Day, Carving Day, Turning Day, Marquetry Day, Rocker Day, and more. Any other suggestions?

Where is all of this Headed? From 2006 to 2007, and Beyond.

12-26-2006 08:41 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 4 comments »

I was reading a Forum comment by “Don” this morning and it got my writing juices going again after 3 weeks of Christmas project hard work and long hours. To make matters worse/better (depending on whether you are reading or writing), I finally got the required 7 hours of sleep last night, the first time during the past 3 weeks, so I feel better today. So, I opted to make another entry in this Blog. Oh, by the way Martin, this “I need more room button” could be the...

Harbingers of Peace, Joy and Life ....”and as workers of wood is that not what we are doing, when we take a dead form of wood and create an image of life out of the wood. I have watched the faces on children and adults when they connect with a piece of wood art and then to see the smile break forth. As workers of wood we truly can be; harbingers of peace, joy and life!!!” I have wrote this after commenting on a project thathttp://lumberjocks.com/jocks/jockmike2 has posted an...
