My brother carves skateboards. He seldom shows his work and never promotes it. I think his carvings are incredible and figured some at Lumberjocks would appreciate them too. He uses the adz for major wood removal; you can see the adz marks on many carvings. He makes the adz himself using old plane blades (or rasps) and tree branches. Here is one he made for me.

Here are his tools:

The smaller carving tools tools he makes from carbon steel knives bought at thrift stores. He heats them up with a torch to take the temper out, then grinds or bends them down to the desired shape, then retempers them. His skateboards can be ridden, gently, but not for tricks. He even made a motorized skateboard, but don’t ask me why.
