Part 1: day 1, start up

01-29-2021 05:31 AM by bandit571 | 1 comment »

Ok, recently, I finished up rehabbing a Stanley No. 45 Combo Plane.. And thought it would be nice to build a box/case to store this in, when not in use…so, I went to Lowes, and bought 5 planks….1/2” x 6” x 24” clear Pine. All the way from New Zealand, no less. Got them home, and clamped them together… And let them sit in the shop for a day or two, to get used to the “weather” down in the shop…. Bench was a bit full of …...

Part 2: Corner work

Last we looked, just had some fingers milled, at least they were ready to be….Needed chopped about halfway in from one face.. Flipped over, and then finished the chopping… Takes a bit of time…but.. Be sure to mark what corner this is, and whether this is the inside, or not….top/bottom will be a bit later…Use the completed fingers to mark out the matching fingers on the end panel.. This time around, the bandsaw can make a few cuts.. Same as before, ...

Part 3: Feeling groovy

Have 2 combo planes…might as well use both of them…. Had to get the Nickel Plated one out of it’s case… It got set up with a #12, 1/4” straight cutter, the Type 3 plane was set up with a 1/2” wide cutter. Once the grooves for the bottom panel were milled…I could cut the 1/4” plywood panel to size..roughly….and cut the 1/2” wide by 1/4” deep dado….while dry fitting the panel, found it to be 1/8” too long...

Mainly getting ready for some….Box came out of the clamps, today….had to whack a couple cauls, to get them to let go…not a biggie… Had to sand and plane the corners, anyway. Fill in any gaps ( there’s always some..)and then try to get the top edge straight and leveled… Then tried the plane IN the box.. So I could cut and fit a “pad” for the plane to rest on….and not rattle around in there…had one other task before I could ...

Part 5: Build a lid

02-02-2021 05:09 AM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

got tired of waiting around on a mail delivery that wasn’t going to happen, today….apparently 4” of snow is too deep? Sunday night, got bored sitting around…decided to try out an idea. Arrange a few saw cuts just so….that the holes from those grooves and rebates don’t show…and there be a bunch to hide.. Plane was….start with a miter cut… For one “finger”width….next a few other cuts were laid out.. But, not ...

Part 6: Lid installed, and a PIP ?

02-03-2021 11:45 PM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

Ok, first…those two packages…..one has the Long Rods… Still not quite as long as the later models, but these are almost double the length I had. Yes, they do thread into the main stock’s body….later models, the rods just slid on through. The other package? Contained the Main Body Depth Stop…..I can live with the threaded version just fine….the OEM Non-threaded ones are a bit hard to fine….and $$$ to get….These two packages gave me...
