Part 1: back story, day one

Was just sitting around, one day, watching a bit of Roy Underhill’s The Woodwright’s Shop on Youtube. He had Chris Schwarz on, talking about building “Campaign Furniture” episode 1….when Chris showed how to make the corner joints used in the casework….before all the brass parts were added. Called it a Full Blind Dovetail. Wasn’t doing any projects at the moment, hmmm…maybe give those a try….would be something different to learn? ...

Part 2: day 2...a little better

Found out a couple items….on the end of most bevel gauges, the blade ends at an angle… Which also matches the angles I use for my dovetails. I can simply leave the blade locked out straight with the handle. I can lay that blade along the rebate….and lay out the pins.. So, if I start with a half pin on each edge, and work towards the center…. I even gained another pin! Then, while using the No. 68 Dovetail saw….IF I also used the putty knife as a ke...

Part 3: Day #4

About the same as the last two days…I skipped Day #3, because I was too tired to go to the shop….even with hand tools, sometimes brain farts will happen….better to show up all rested up….with the brain fully engaged… had the lay out line wrong…moved it forward and try again….Sawing….careful, otherwise you’ll saw too far….better just to barely nick things, then come in with the “Kerf Knife” You can see a couple spo...

Part 4: Make it into a box?

Well, the whole point of this little project, was to learn HOW to make a “Double Lap Blind Dovetail Joint” or however you want to label it… Made a few mistakes along the way….part of the process, I guess. Each corner seemed to get better as I went merrily along…. So….maybe a few grooves to house a lid panel, and a bottom panel….had other tasks for the Stanley 45 in mind, so This old woodie will do.
