Part 1: Starting up

Ok…regular Tap & Die box is done…but….there is a set of Pipe thread taps and a die that is feeling left out.. There are a few duplicates in there. Retired the worst of them, Kept the best of the 1/8” and the 1/4” taps. Rest are just singles….mainly from either ACE or Greenfield….The die is for 1/8” NPT. Had some Poplar left over….and a bit of 1×4 Pine scrap…...Laid out all the parts….wanted to stair-step the ta...

Part 2: Dovetails 101

Time to build a box….gather the toys.. Just the usual suspects…. Pins first, of course. Chisels are to set the spacing of the pins….finish marking things out.. Disston No. 68 to make a few cuts…set up a chopping block.. Chop down 1/2 way on the show side, flip over and chop the rest of the waste out… Clean up with a small rasp. Use this to lay out the matching tails. Leave the pencil lines by cutting on the waste side. then more chopping goi...

Part 3: Feeling Groovy

Ok, the last time the Stanley 45 was used…it was set up with a 1/2” wide #18 cutter…..so, in order to get back to making a 1/4” x 3/16” (deep) groove to house the panels….Need to change out the cutter for the #12 cutter. Need to reset the depth stop to 3/16” deep. Need to move the sliding stock in as far as it will go, so the “skates” will fit into a 1/4” wide groove. And, finally move the fence in to about a 1/4” from ...

Part 4: Out of the clamps

Fixing square holes with round pegs, splitting off a lid….among other tasks…Army of clamps removed…well..maybe just a Squad….Box was looking a bit rough around the edges…like it had just been woke up…..We have a few tools to use, along with a sander, or two…Stanley No. 4, Type 10, and a Stanley No. 60-1/2 block plane. Dovetails needed smoothed down flush with the sides, and the sides needed smoothed and flat, so.. Have no idea what is under the t...
