Part 1: Lay out, start up

Recently, I picked up, and rehabbed an OLD Stanley No. 71-1/2 Router plane. Thought maybe I could build a box to store it in, and keep the dust off of it. So..did a search for a design for such a wooden box….interwebbies shown a couple ways….one was a sliding lid, meh.The other had some ideas I could use… Hmmm…did a screen shot capture. Seems this was sold on “Worth Point”, and was made in England? Printed out a copy…to use as a guide. ...

Part 2: Dovetails, grooves, and a raised panel...

Ok…those dovetails. Done with a router, but, no jig…Starts with two lines Ones closest to the ends are where the baseline is, and is knifed in. the two in the middle are “Stop lines”.. Set right at the top of the vise. When the router’s base hits the top of the bench, it will stop. A bevel gauge to mark the “pins” and MK1 eyeballs to control the cut in the sockets Depth of cut is set….goggles go on over my glasses… Rat...

Part 3: The lid has been removed

When last seen, the box was all clamped up…waiting on glue to dry a day… Today, after Lunch…clamps came off. needed to clean the ends a bit.. Just the ends, and had to be careful around that end grain…then set up the Stanley 45, to plough the outside grooves, in hope I hit the inside ones half way…raised the fence a bit….and set it to the lines I make before the glue up…. Went all the way around the outside…then tried to knife the lid...

Part 4: Pip time..

Hinges installed… Brass corner pieces added… A latch was installed….needed a bit of work to get it to stay latched…. Inside has been stained. to match the outside.. Latch finally stays …latched. About ready to post as a Project? Thanks for looking in!
