Part 1: Started up

Since I still had a big stack of that Ash scrap pile… And boxes were getting ‘boring” to make…thought I could try building a tray, or tote out of this mess.. A few of the boards need thinned down a bit….and got a second kickback…homemade pushstick hit the saw blade, then the palm of the hand, again….Found a few scraps about the right length.. 5 pieces…edges needed jointed, then a glue up…to make a panel for the tray’s botto...

Part 2: A glue up..

First, decided to add a couple dividers, to make 6 compartments….stock was a bit too thick…we have ways.. Next, lay out where they will go…and notch the handle…about 3/8” deep.. Then mark the dividers for their notches, and notch them to fit.. Then, stand this mess up onto the end piece, and mark for fingers….fingers at the corners were the easy part But, I needed that old Sash chisel to chop two through mortises for the handle’s finger t...

Part 3: Another glue up, and a PIP

Have about one more week to get all that Ash scrap wood used up…then a deck project takes over. But.. This time, I remembered the dividers….had to, as the bottom gets glued on over them..let it sit for a day…the a clean up was done.. Bottom was a tad too wide…we have ways… Millers Falls No. 11….seemed to do the job.. The ends were a bit long, too…sanded them smooth, rather than mess with end grain and planes… Aslo tried to improv...
