Ok, a little background on this one….just before all those trips to the Hospital happened…I had a bunch of leftovers from the Desk project….even had the better looking pieces all resawn down to 3/8” stuff….then, once I was allowed to work IN the shop, Chester Drawers Project started up…. So…now I have the time to putter around with the Ash boards.. Picked out 4 that almost matched each other…jointed the ends, trimmed a couple for length&#...

Getting panels made, then cleaned up out of the clamps.. Started with this, and cleaned it up.. Sander and planes to get things flat and almost smooth…reused the clamps.. And a third panel was glued up….came back the next day… Removed all of these, and cleaned this long panel up..along with #3 #4 was jointed and clamped up.. And set aside…next day, got #4 cleaned up, box was looking a little odd…decided I could build two boxes by cross cutting a...

Where was I? Been busy cutting box joints, by hand… the 2 longer side panels to match each other, with things all nice and squared up….clamped them together for the next few steps….made a line showing where the ends will go…carried that all around..Have a 6mm chisel to use, to get the spacing about right…then used a small square.. square a line across both panels, and down the sides a bit….need these lines to guide the saw.. had to lower the...

Was finally able to get some shop time Sunday….first part was before Lunch…Box was removed from the forest of clamps….long fingers were sanded down flush….and a few high spots were also lowered a bit….right before Lunch.. Marked and cut out a lid from the glued up panel….marked out, and cut a 1/4” plywood panel for a bottom and glued that in place…using the bench’s vise to hold things tight, while the glue dried, and I had some Lunch&...

03-28-2019 02:05 PM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

Ok, the Boss has already claimed Box #1 as a Recipe Box…..going to wait on any varnishing, until after this next one is done. Used that zero clearance tablesaw for bit…..until a kickback sent my pushstick flying backwards to the wall behind me….Sorted through the stack of thin parts, found two that matched each other, and were about the right size for a lid…managed to get them glued up.. Then set this aside, for now….Cleaned up the two treasures from the M...

03-31-2019 05:27 PM by bandit571 | 0 comments »

got the rest of the corners done….had an issue with the big backsaw not wanting to start a cut….found a saw that would as long as I keep the blade waxed The one end had split along the glue line….still got the tails marked and chopped Once the dry fit was done, and I took things apart to work on the last corner.. The part with the split was sent to the clamps, and glued back up….last pins were chopped.. Used those to mark out the tails…and chop those&...
