Part 1: Start ups

01-18-2016 01:38 AM by bandit571 | 4 comments »

Well, while going through the local Menards Store, went over and dug through there Value Wood rack…they were selling 1×10s and 1×12s, all under 3’ long. Picked through to get the clearer stuff. Wound up with five boards, for $1.69 each.. And, since the Single Brain Cell Sketch Up was “off-line” had to actually draw something on paper.. About as close to an actual “plan” as I get. Even drew a “page 2” Wore out the penci...

Part 2: Dovetails, story of two saws

01-19-2016 12:44 AM by bandit571 | 2 comments »

When you can’t find the saw you want…use the next one on the hook? “Clearcut” brand, from a Hardware Dealer in Cleveland, OH. 10ppi, but cuts rips cut like butter? Ok. Been awhile since I had cut dovetails, and I got out of practice a bit. Wound up doing the tails first… These aren’t THAT bad, Once this side was done, I somehow had to mark out the pins…not the easiest for me to do. I use a pencil to mark things out. had to remember whi...

Part 3: In and out of the clamps

01-20-2016 04:23 AM by bandit571 | 2 comments »

Busy day….busy,busy,...busy…had a bunch of clamps lined up, Elmer’s was awaiting to go. had a small “acid” brush to spread the stuff around, and a BIG hammer to assist. One would think that the glue would let the parts slide together better…..nope. After banging things into place, and making even a Squid blush….Finally got it glued up. I did check for square….just wasn’t any room to add THAT diagonal clamp… Now, about tha...

About 1pm today, decided to go and hide out in the shop…...at least until I got too sore to move.. Needed to clear some space. needed a couple toys..er…TOOLS from the Tool Chest #2….and be able to get to the mitresaw.. Found these hiding in the Tool Chest…a Wards #79, Stanley #39, and a square of some sort. I even swept the floor in there! As I needed to get back to thay saw bench. Needed to cut some bread board ends at a bevel…on each end IF I try...

Part 5: Sanding, and the final touches

01-22-2016 02:13 AM by bandit571 | 2 comments »

Lids were sanded down, and adjusted a bit. One of these days, I’ll learn how to make perfectly fitting lids…. Hinges had an issue as well, couple screws decided to come out the other side…hate when that happens. Ground the tips of the screws down, will replace when the shorter ones arrive. End of the box looked a bit too plain…dug up some thin Walnut scrap and sawed some 1” wide strips… Once I figured out how to cut the angles…nails and gl...

Part 6: Updated, starting the fill-up

02-17-2016 06:10 PM by bandit571 | 4 comments »

Just an update. Found some brass plated handles to put on the ends of this 50 pound+ tool box. Used a Vix Bit to start the screws… Might make carrying ( lugging??) this thing around easier? One on each end. Picked up a few brass hooks to hang a few items with.. Couple of screwdrivers, and bevel gauge and a pair of pliers. Bottom area is filling up.. There is a 16oz hammer, a square, a couple chisels, a small “wonder bar” by Stanley. A 12” tool box...
