« Part 1: Started up Part 2 of Walnut Night stand series Part 3: Back to wood working »

Before I could turn this post/column….Moved a couple stands around, moved a sheet of plywood elsewhere. Found a bench of some sort, removed all the junk ( well, almost all) that was piled up…...floor now has a footpath..

And ..lookee what I find..

I also found some tools for it..

So, got that chore out of the way. I got the blank out of all them clamps. Bandsaw to trim the neds a bit

It is in the vise, until I could find out where the center is. Once found on each end, I could drive this home

Called a drive spur? Mounted the blank on the lathe….

Hmm, might turn the lathe on, and try some of the chisels out..

This will get sized down a bit. This is where the legs will be. Kept going down the line

The other end will have a collar and a tenon, to help attach the top. Came back to the leg area, and carved a bit more off..

then back to the top, again…

Gave things a rough sanding, to see where I as at. Motor on the lathe was getting a bit too warm. Well, I can let that cool down for a while. I did get the top’s panel out of it’s clamps..

Need to run the scrub planes all over this, then rig out a Norm Abram circle cutter for my bandsaw. Top needs to be a circle, 18” in diameter. Right now, the “pivot point” would be about 3” off the edge of the table.

Hmm…I do have that sheet of plywood sitting off in the corner…..

The column itself is 18” long. Top is to be a circle~ 18” in diameter. Depending on the legs how tall this will be….

Might be a Telephone stand, since we still have a land line phone in the house. Shakers used this for a candle stand beside a bed.

Begining to think this old lathe might be on it’s last job. Throws the belt, bearings are noisey, T rail is a trip to adjust the tool rest on…maybe next time I need I lathe, I might go out and buy a new one….Budget allowing.
