This will be a short blog….but..
The second End assembly came out of the clamps…sanded and glue joints cleaned up..and check to see how it fits..
Doesn’t even need a clamp to keep it there…
Long side also out of the clamps…glue joints and any other rough spots cleaned up…had to flip it over..
To get the grooves facing the right direction…and a little sanding as needed….Each Tongue was given a bead of glue…ends were set into place….then the fun…setting the other long side down on top of the other 3….had to “assist” with a mallet….then start with a few clamps…
3 clamps on each end….top, bottom and center…trying to get a decent bead to show up…center clamp moved to close any gap that shows up…
Diagonal clamp was added, as things were not quite square….clamp to pull until it is indeed square….was about 1/8” out..WAS…
Going to let this sit a few days….shop being closed on Mondays….
Tuesday: will try to clean all the glue joints up. Then see about some cleats to support a panel for the bottom of the chest…Not sure IF it will be plywood, or solid wood, yet.
Then see about a lid, of some sort….doubt IF it will be like Bilbo Baggins’ chest…..at least mine will not smell like Troll?
Haven’t decided on a finish, just yet…seeings how this is made from Maple….
Stay tuned…

Looks good. they look like they have been around for a hundred years. Are you replicating aged antiques?
Have your say...
